Branch News as well as house and deliver your baskets. We remind you to please bring your prize to the event and take it to the registration table as soon as you arrive. If you can't bring it with you, you can send it ahead of time to the Home Office, but we prefer you bring it with you if at all possible. Our thanks to Endre Csornán and John Toth for their assistance. Our next Chinese auction will be held at the golf tournament. Popular prizes would include items for men, liquor baskets and lottery tickets. For the WPA Picnic in September, you may want to consider baskets containing items for children and families, but liquor and lottery tickets are popular there, too. Please remember the Holy Cross festival on June 10 and 11 at Yack Arena, 3131 Third St., Wyandotte, Mich. For more information, call 313- 842-1133. Please support this event. This is the only Hungarian festival still held in our area. Our thanks to all the volunteers who keep it running. Our May branch meeting will be May 17 at the Hungarian American Reformed Church at 7:00 p.m. I spent an evening at the Hungarian American Cultural Center with catering manager Ursula Markovits. We planned our Oct. 29 gala which will honor our branch's 50-year members, mark Branch 18's 100th anniversary AND celebrate the WPA's 120th anniversary. The evening will start with appetizers, Hungarian music and fratemalism, then progress through dinner, presentations and dance music. We'll even have zither players! We'll have wonderful gifts and surprises for you all. Hope you plan to attend. If you have already been a 50-year honoree and would like to attend, please call me. Time to think golf tournament. Call me if you would like to attend. Thank a veteran on Memorial Day and remember them in your prayers. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár Hello to everyone in the WPA world. Hoping and wishing all a very successful spring planting, as well as lots of policies and annuities. In our area, competition among insurance agents is very fierce. We are very competitive in terms of what we offer and our rates. People receive advertisements from other insurers that look terrific; however, actual comparison shows that our rates are better. We thank our Philadelphia members for their loyalty. We want to send a special congratulations to Tamas Kinyo on his marriage on Saturday, April 8/ at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. Best wishes to you and your bride, Tommy. Sadly, the Hungarian Club is being sold. An offer was made and accepted, and an agreement of sale was signed. We all want the Club to continue. However, our many celebrations will have to take place in other facilities rather than in our own building. The cost of maintaining the present building became too high because of needed repairs and updates, as well as property taxes. Our WPA meetings will continue to be at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club on the fourth Friday of the month until settlement is made and the club moves out. The William Penn Association urges everyone to become part of the Join Hands Day movement. On May 6, people are asked to get together and join with others in their families, neighborhoods, and other groups to help improve the areas in which we live. We all know how much better we feel when we are looking our best and how much more pleasant our lives are when our homes are neat and clean. Our entire country would be improved if each of us would join hands to improve our surroundings. Branch 296 ^ Springdale, PA by Diane M. Torma ITappy May birthday wishes to Jim Charles, Frank Fritz and all of our members celebrating birthdays this month. We also send warm birthday greetings to Branch Vice President John Rusak and Branch Coordinator George Charles. Enjoy your special day and hope you have many more to come. Reminders to scholarship applicants that the May 31 deadline is fast approaching, so submit your applications as soon as possible before that date. Don't forget that there is a new requirement this year, a 100-word essay entitled, "What Fratemalism Means to Me." Our deepest sympathy is extended to Elsie Drab on the loss of her William Penn Life, May 2006 17
