Branch News Four generations Will the real Joseph Fónagy please stand up? Actually, everyone in this photo would be standing. Let’s start with Joseph Fónagy (lower right corner), a member of Branch 26 Sharon, Pa. He’s holding his greatgrandson Joseph J. Fónagy III. Behind him are his son, Dr. Joseph J. Fónagy, DDS (left) and his grandson, Dr. Joseph J. Fónagy Jr., DPM., who is also a member of Branch 26. Oberg (love you), Rose Antal (our hard-working secretary), Endre Csornán, Rey Holguin (also happy anniversary to Rey and Betty), Rocky Borsa, Mike Szopo, Marge Forhan, Dan Mayoros, Julius Bubenko, Judy Toth, Steve Stoltz, Jonathan Antal, Steve Vargo, Art Antal, Carol Falwell, Alex Marchelletta, Helen Soltész, Ashley Molnár, Lori Gross, Walt Sabo, Darlene Kraepel and Paul Torony. Happy anniversary to Pete and Dianne Charles. Happy super anniversary to A1 and Olga Wansa. A1 and Olga are celebrating 65 years together. Now that's what I call an anniversary. They looked wonderful at the White Rose Ball. Speaking of which, the Ball, sponsored by the Hungarian Arts Club, was a huge success. I saw so many people I haven't seen for a long time. It is wonderful to see you all want to keep this event going for a very long time. Well, I guess that's all the news for this month. Hope to see you at the bowling tournament. Please call me anytime if I can help you with your WPA needs. My number is 313-383-4472. We resumed our meetings in March. Our next branch meeting will be held April 20. After the April meeting, we will meet on the second Wednesday of every month at the American Hungarian Reformed Church at 7:00 p.m. Please feel free to attend. Think "bowling" and "fun." Branch 189 Alliance, OH by Sherri Cole I hope everyone had a great Easter. The William Penn Ladies Auxiliary sponsored its Easter party on March 20. We recently held our election of officers. Jerome Hamby presided over the elections. Elected were: Grade Cobbs, president; Bob Schaffer, vice president; Frank Bycraft, treasurer; Kim Mcllvain, secretary; and Daryl Taschwer, Mike Delane and Linda Donahoe, auditors. The William Penn and Ladies Auxiliary's children's Christmas party was a real treat. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus spoke to the children and gave gifts to all 78 children attending the party. The Popovich Dancers provided the entertainment. Brian Wait will continue to serve in Iraq. His brother is in training now and soon will be shipping out. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their mother, WPA member Donna Wait. The Ladies Auxiliary donated $100 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be sponsoring a boys hot stove team and a girls softball team. The Ladies Auxiliary was also invited to participate in the local Memorial Day parade again. Upcoming events include a golf outing on July 16 and a Halloween party on Oct. 23. Additional information will be posted on the board at the club as it becomes available. Isten Veled. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank We encourage all branch members to read the eligibility rules for the WPA scholarship grants being offered in 2005. Do you have a family member who is a student and a WPA life benefit member who is planning to enroll in a college, university or school of nursing? If so, why not apply for this financial help? The deadline for applications is May 31. With the arrival of spring also means the return of that great American pastime-baseball. The Altoona Curve (the AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) will open their 2005 home season on April 14 against Erie. Branch 800 will be well represented at this and future games by members and their families. My wife Millie and I will be looking forward to seeing you all again throughout the summer. Branch 800 has set aside our May branch meeting as a time to recognize those faithful members who have attained 50 years of membership in the WPA. The Home Office will be notifying our branch as to who those members are, and we, in turn, will notify those eligible to be honored. The fishing season is just around the corner. So get your fishing gear ready for the opening day of trout season, set for Saturday, April 16.1 know that all those who love this sport can't wait to get out of the house and head to the streams and lakes to enjoy the peace that comes with this sport. We wish all of you good luck on opening day. Mark your calendars: Branch 800 has scheduled its annual summer picnic for Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 6:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at Highland Park in Altoona. Saturday, May 7, is the day for the annual Join Hands Day. It is a day for youth and adults to plan and work together to help their community. William Penn Life, April 2005 15
