Branch News Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak What a wonderful event was arranged and presented by the Home Office and Board of Directors on Sept. 10. Many thanks for the endless hours of planning and preparation for this great annual fraternal event. Branch 28 had a great response for our bus trip. We were full by mid- August and had a waiting list. Maybe next year we'll need a second bus? As always, we enjoyed visiting with our friends and the endless supply of delicious food. Nice to know all those Hungarian treats had no calories involved.... Special thoughts and prayers are with all those suffering such great losses in the southern states due to the extreme weather and flooding. On behalf of the members of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, I thank the WPA for its most generous gift presented to the church in honor of its 100th anniversary. It was so nice to have two members of the Board- Michael Tomcsak and Anthony Beke, along with Joan and Marguerite—take time from their busy schedules to spend the day with us. Mark your calendars for the fall homecoming gathering at St. Stephen of Hungary Church on Sunday, Oct. 23, from noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 330-743-1905. It's hard to believe the holidays are fast approaching. Branch 28 is circulating our holiday/ scholarship raffle tickets. The drawing will be during the Christmas party on Dec. 3. Watch your mail for your tickets, or call Steve Novak at 330-746-7704 if you'd like to purchase a chance. If you have questions about life insurance or news to share with our readers, call Kathy at 330-746-7704 or Alan Szabó at 330-482-9994. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Andy McNelis Well, the summer is officially over after the Penn Scenic View picnic is held. As in the past, it was great! Many thanks to all of the volunteers, the Home Office and last, but certainly not least (couldn't do it without you) Endré. Everyone that I talked to had a great time and commented on how delicious the food was, especially the gulyás! Way to go everyone! Speaking of picnics, Branch 34 and the Hazelwood Hungarian Social Club joined together on Sept. 17 for the Picnic at the Club. I thank the members of the club and our branch for all of their hard work in setting up and preparing the food. Also, on behalf of the branch and club, I thank the WPA Board of Directors for taking time out of their busy schedule to attend. It was greatly appreciated. Some very sad news from our branch: a long time member and friend, Walter Bugielski, passed away. Walter was our vice president for some time and a beautiful artist and camera bug. He made decorations for Christmas that we used for many years at St. Ann Hungarian Church, made signs, hand painted ties and decorated our bowling team shirts. Walter was an active member of VFW Post 1810 and past Commander of the Seabee Veterans of America. He will be sorely missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife Marge and family.
