Toth There is not a more wonderful way to end the summer months than with the terrific picnic hosted by the WPA for its members and friends. What a magnificent affair, complete with plenty of food and games for the youngsters. Our thanks to Endre Csornán, membership activities manager, who was in charge of orchestrating this affair, and Chef Bill Vasvary who, along with Endre and many volunteers, prepared the delicious food. It took many days to plan and prepare all the items. We thank Joseph Revesz, assistant chief elder of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead, who, with his secret recipe, made the kolbász for the picnic. Mr. Revesz was assisted by Endre Csornán and many of our Branch 89 members. Joe received many compliments on the delicious kolbász. The children were entertained with various activities, including the always enjoyable hayride. Our thanks to Arlene Csornán, Geraldine Davenport and all their assistants for their wonderful work with the children. Everyone is looking forward to next year's picnic. The adults enjoyed the Hungarian band and many danced to the Hungarian tunes. We greatly appreciate the efforts made by the national officers, Home Office employees, national directors Branch News Among those attending the 100th anniversary celebration honoring St Stephen of Hungary Church in Youngstown, Ohio, were (front, l-r) National Director Anthony C. Beke, Marguerite Beke, Joan Mauerman, (back, l-r) Branch 28 President Steve Novak, National Director Michael F. Tomcsak and Branch 28 Secretary-Treasurer Kathy Novak. and branch members. Branch 89 was well represented among the volunteers who helped wherever needed. One of our young members, Nicholas Skillpa, was thrilled to win the Jerome Bettis autographed football, especially since he plays on the West Mifflin youth football team. Warmest get well wishes go out to Bernie Drab. We've missed seeing you at all of the WPA outings this year and hope you are feeling better. Our thoughts and prayers are also with our friends from Johnstown, Sándor Yuhas and Ernie Kedves. We will miss you both and Dorothy at the Bacon Roast this year. You've become "regulars." Get well wishes are also extended to Leslie Arch, who is recovering from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident. May God's healing touch bring each of you comfort. All of us at Branch 296 offer our deepest sympathy to Pete Christopher on the loss of his beloved wife Julia. We will miss her at the Bacon Roast this year. May she rest in peace. We welcome George Hudanick as our newest branch member. Thank you for choosing the WPA. What a wonderful day once again at the fifth annual WPA Picnic held at Penn Scenic View on Sept. 10! About 800 people enjoyed delicious food, hayrides, music, children's activities, fraternal spirit-all in the spectacular setting of Penn Scenic View. We could not have ordered better weather. Fratemalism was in action as many, many volunteers gave of their time, talent and treasure to make the day the success that it was. It is very heartwarming to see the many volunteers work so hard with their reward being the enjoyment of the guests. We are blessed to have these very special people. It takes a great deal of planning and organization to pull off such an event, from the large quantities of food to preparing the grounds to the Chinese Auction. Congratulations to Endre Csornán for coordinating this event and to his wonderful volunteers, who worked tirelessly to achieve a successful picnic. You all did a great job! Happy October birthdays to Ron Balia, Matthew Charles, Dorothy Dinzeo, Boris Gosciejew and John E. Lovász. A special birthday wish to Julius Zimmerman, who will celebrate his 97th birthday on Oct. 24. May your special day be filled with all that you love.
