Branch News Branch 296 member John F. Simon Jr. (second from left) recently was inducted into the Leechburg (Pa.) Hall of Fame. John, who was the subject of last month’s “Spotlight” feature, is joined at the induction ceremony by WPA Sales Representative Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF (far left), WPA Membership Activities Manager Endre Csornán and Branch 296 member Irene Charles. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward The officers and members of Branch 14 wish everyone a Happy Easter. This is a time of year to reflect on all our blessings and to hold hope for the future. Speaking of hope, we are very happy to have longtime member John Varga share with us an e-mail he received from his grandson, John H. Varga, currently serving our country in Afghanistan. John wrote that he celebrated his 21st birthday, and that it easily took the cake as "worst 21st birthday ever." On the upside, he mentioned that his birthday gifts included his first shower in six days and finally getting to eat some "real food." Anyone interested in writing to John may do so at the following address: Varga, John H. JPOTF APO, AE 09354 Freedom is never free, and it's brave young men and women like John who deserve our gratitude. Branch 14 is looking forward to hosting the annual bowling tournament Memorial Day weekend, May 28 to 30. Contact Branch 14 President Caroline Lanzara at 216-581-8979 if you're interested in attending. A reminder for all Branch 14 current and prospective scholarship recipients: the deadline for new applications and renewals is May 31, 2004. It is recommended that you send your forms by certified mail to ensure timely receipt. Branch 14 welcomes the following new members: Margaret Jacob, Madelyn Norman, Jacob Kisel, Micah Üveges and Arlene Darrow. Please contact Jeff Ward at 440-838-1200 with any prospective new members. The next branch meeting will be held April 14 at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills. All Branch 14 members are welcome to attend to help plan final arrangements for the bowling tournament and future activities. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House Happy Easter to all our wonderful members! I can't believe it's spring already. We have been in Florida since the 4th of January and have been blessed with wonderful weather since we arrived. We had only a few days that weren't the greatest, but those were some of our favorites...we shopped. At this writing, we are about a month from returning home for the rest of the year. It really is true: Time flies after a certain age. Welcome new members of the Ladanyi family. Thank you, George and Joan. Thank you also to Ann Sorke, Walter Sabo, Deac Sabo, Bob and Elsie Kantor and the Matecki family for the faith you have shown in the WPA and me. I promise to keep a good eye on your investments. Get well wishes to Alex Vespremi, Alex Dolgos, Betty Holguin, Helen Breznai and my mom Irene Korpák. The winter wasn't too kind to them. Hope you all will be better soon. Happy birthday to our April members, especially Mike Oberg, Marge Forhan, Dan Mayoros, Julius Bibenko, Jonathan Antal, Rose P. Antal, Richard Miastkowski, Art Antal, Carol Falwell, Alex Marchelletta, Ashley Molnár, Steve Szabó, Lori Gross, Rey Holguin (happy anniversary to Rey and Betty, also), Walt Sabo, Rocky Borsa, Judy Toth, Steve Charles (happy 21st) and Endre Csornán. Happy anniversary to Pete and Dianne Charles. Wow, we really had a lot to mention, but they are all supportive members of our branch. I am working on bowling tournament items today. If you want to bowl, please let me know as soon as possible. We would love to have you join us. Even if you don't bowl, you will have a truly wonderful time seeing all 14 Williu Pen Life, April 2004
