Darago With winter underway, Branch 44 held its family holiday party Dec. 13 at the Cathedral Buffet and Banquet Center. More than 70 members and their families enjoyed a bountiful breakfast buffet, a visit from Santa, a raffle, door prizes and goodie bags. Alan Szabó brought WPA 2004 calendars for the adults. Our oldest member attending was Jim Beres, 92, while the youngest member attending was one-year-old TriciaAnne Mollohan.. .a span of 91 years of fratemalism! Non-perishable food items were collected at the door, enough for us to prepare three Holiday Baskets. After the gathering, a member suggested to branch officers a family in need: the young father died in an accident while on vacation, leaving a wife and two young children. A second basket is going to a man shot in a drive-by shooting which left him a quadriplegic. He was an innocent bystander. The third basket will be delivered to the Peace House, a Catholic lay house which provides transitional housing for immigrants to the Akron area. Thanks to all members for their generous donations to this program. The annual election of officers was held during the holiday get-together. Reelected to serve our branch were: Elizabeth Darago, president; Nancy Chula, vice president; Marilyn Darago, treasurer; Carmen Darago, secretary; and Cheryl Stadler and Alex Darago, auditors. Our branch coordinator is George Naswadi. All members and their families are wished a safe and happy new year. The first meeting for 2004 will be held in April. So, be safe this winter, and we'll see you in the spring. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 held its election of officers during its Dec. 11 meeting. Congratulations to our new officers; Marge Boso, president; Art Bartfay, vice president; Margaret Leonardo, secretary; Priscilla Sibrik, treasurer; and Debbie Lewis and Diana Walker, auditors. Good luck to all in the coming year. The Christmas party was a great success. About 200 members and guests joined us at the American Legion Post 144 hall. The food, catered by the cultural club of the Hungarian Reformed church, was delicious. Everyone enjoyed cabbage rolls, sausage, fried chicken, potatoes, sauerkraut and diós kifli for dessert. Santa gave each child a bag of goodies, candy and a $5 bill. Several door prizes were awarded to lucky attendees. We were entertained by the Gegenheimer girls who played Christmas music on the violin, with Rach Clise joining them on the flute. All the girls did a great job, and everyone enjoyed them. Thanks, girls. We hope you will play for us again at the next party. Several members led us in the singing of Christmas carols, which sounded very nice. The hall was great, very big and roomy. We hope we can use it again. Faithful member Karl Nagy has had some heart problems and was in the hospital for several days. He is home now and feeling better. Get well soon, Karl. The Hungarian Church Cultural Club will make hurka and sausage the third weekend of January. The Hungarian church in Columbus is welcoming a new minister from Canada, Rev. Otvos, in January. We all wish him good luck in his new position. Our next branch meeting will be held the second Wednesday in March. We will not meet in February because the weather is usually too bad.
