Branch 28 Youngstown, OH... . ......'.................................... by Kathy Novak Happy 2004! Hoping everyone had a wonderful and joyous holiday season. With the much appreciated assistance of the Home Office, we held another successful Christmas party (in spite of inclement weather). The members sincerely thank the Home Office for the generous sponsorship of this event for our children. Sincere thanks go out to all those who helped prepare and rim the party. The Aut Mori Clowns provided entertainment. Face painters were kept busy with a long line of children. After everyone enjoyed a buffet luncheon, we sang Christmas carols. As we sang, Santa (John Tollas Jr.) entered the room. A group photo of the children with Santa was taken by Nicholle Schauer, then each child had the chance to sit on Santa's lap, tell him their Christmas wishes and receive a gift bag and envelope. A children's raffle was held with 24 gifts awarded. The winners of our holiday scholarship raffle were Welsey Spencer, Patrick Bryne, John Kalucsky, Elaine Heilman, Betty Szabó, John Morey, Colton Moewe and John Chekan. We thank all those who purchased tickets to help benefit the scholarship foundation. Again, a big "thank you" to all those who helped make the party go so smoothly and successfully. Get well wishes to Rose Matasy on her post party mishap. With the help of the Home Office, Branch 28 once again made Holiday Basket program contributions to three local charities. In November we hosted an appreciation gathering honoring our 50- year members. A very nice time was had by all in attendance. A very special get well wish goes out to Branch Vice President Frank Schauer who recently underwent unexpected heart surgery. With the help of wonderful doctors and an outpouring of prayers, the surgery was successful. Frank is on his way to a full recovery. Branch News Santa shares a moment with the children attending Branch 44’s holiday party. Happy birthday wishes to all those celebrating their special day. Greetings also to all those happy couples marking another year of wedded bliss. Our sincere sympathy is extended to all those having recently lost a loved one. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Andy McNelis Here's hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas and all your wishes came true. On behalf of the officers and members of Branch 34,1 would like to wish a happy, healthy and safe new year to all WPA members and their families. With that in mind, pause a moment and say a prayer for all our service men and women, especially those in harmsway, for they are the reason we are safe. At the American Hungarian Social Club in Hazelwood on Dec. 6, our branch was joined by Branch 71 Duquesne to celebrate the annual family Christmas party. The Friday night snow cleared up enough Saturday morning to allow our members to make the party a true success. Those that attended the party were entertained by illusions from Magic Mike. He had the children and adults totally amazed with his performance. As the children entertained themselves with the bag of gifts from the Home Office (the kids loved those flashing balls), they participated in a number of games for which prizes were awarded. The children and adults joined in singing "Jingle Bells" which signaled the arrival of our special guest Santa Claus. Santa sat and talked with the children and asked what they would like for Christmas. Then his "elves" passed out gifts of stuffed animals, coloring sets, envelopes and candy to all the children. Both Branch 71 and Branch 34 would like to extend a special thank you to the Board of Directors and the Home Office staff for making this holiday season for our young members so fantastic. I would also like to thank the "elves" for their assistance in making our Christmas party such a success: Terry Varas, Maria Bistey, Marguerite McNelis, Betty Nagy and her son Gary Nagy from Branch 71, and last, but not least, Becky Williams. Without you we could not have done it. Thanks again, Mickey, the club looked great. The American Hungarian Social Club in Hazelwood was the site of our annual branch meeting on Dec. 7. Elected to serve the branch for the year 2004 were: Andy McNelis, president; Terry Varas, vice president; Marguerite McNelis, secretary/ 16 Williu Penn Life, January 2004
