All of us at Branch 296 extend sincere condolences to Ron and Patty Balia on the loss of their son Chad, 34, to cancer. Chad was a police officer in Florida and will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The Balias thank all those who offered prayers and support during their time of sorrow. We remember too all of our deceased branch members in our prayers. May they all rest in peace. Get well wishes to my mom, Dorothy Dinzeo, who underwent nose surgery after a nasty fall in the snow. I know it's difficult for you, but you'll have to slow down for a while. Let us take care of you for a change. You'll be as good as new in no time. We hold our monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is on April 10. All branch members are welcome. Branch 800 ^ Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank We ask all branch members to read the eligibility rules for this year's WPA scholarship grants (found on the inside of the front cover). Young members enrolling in a college or school of nursing and who need financial support should apply for a grant. Deadline for applications is May 31. Branch 800 will recognize those members attaining 50 years of membership at our May meeting. We will notify by mail those who qualify for this honor. In the meantime, our fraternal association thanks you and wishes you the best of health. It's that happy time of the year again when members get their fishing equipment ready and make plans to head out to lakes and streams for the opening day of trout season, April 12. Good luck to all your fishermen. Mark you calendars: Our branch has scheduled its annual summer picnic for Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park in Altoona. We encourage members to attend our branch meetings held on the first Tuesday of each month from September through May at 7:00 p.m. in the social hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Altoona. Congratulations to 50-year member Donald Résig on his 75th birthday. He tells me he is so happy and thankful that the good Lord has given him these many years. He and his wife go square dancing and exercising at the YMC A every week. He is also a faithful reader of the William Penn Life. God bless you, Don. Chuck Strobert, another 50-year member, who has served many years in the Army Reserves, has been called to active duty. At 52, he is the oldest man in his unit. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz Well, spring has finally arrived, and not a moment too soon! We are sure to remember the long winter we had this year. Along with spring comes the Easter holiday. I would like to extend my wishes for a wonderful Easter season to you and your families. May the joy of this holy season bring you much happiness. Just a quick reminder about our scholarship program. Applications must be received by May 31. If you have any questions, please call me. Longtime members Joan Donahue and her husband Bob went to Florida for a fishing trip in February. Upon arriving at the airport Joan suffered a heart attack. She was taken to a Florida hospital where she underwent open heart surgery. I am thrilled to say Joan was out of the hospital six days later and is doing just great. She is still recovering, but the doctors say she will be as good as new. Here's to wishing Joan and Bob continued good news and a speedy recovery.
