Branch News Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Dawn D. Ward Spring has finally arrived, and northern Ohioans are not the least bit sad to bid adieu to a winter which brought record snowfall and below average temperatures. Branch 14 will sponsor an evening at Gund Arena to see "Champions on Ice" Friday, April 18. The branch is also going to sponsor a bus trip to the annual WPA Picnic at Penn Scenic View, Sept. 13. Refer to future issues of the William Penn Life for information regarding Branch 14 activities. Jeff and I were honored to meet Ambassador András Simonyi, newly appointed representative of the Republic of Hungary to the United States, at Paprika!, an annual gala ball held at the Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland Feb. 22. It was sponsored by the Cleveland Hungarian Development Panel, a non-profit organization which supports and promotes education and cultural ties between Americans and Hungarians by providing assistance and exchange of ideas for Hungarian projects in the areas of commerce, education, health and human services. Several William Penn members were spotted at the ball including Branch 14 auditor Lou Horvath and his wife Carol, Gerald Unger, Bob and Liz Vargo and their daughter Laura. Branch 14 is proud to announce the addition of the following new members: Alexis Buga, Helen Bezzeg, Joseph Corrigan, Henry Horvath, Kristen Stalter, Chelsea Stalter, John James, and Rosalie Burnette. Please refer any potential new members to Jeff Ward at 440-838-1200. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills. All Branch 14 members are welcome to come to help plan summer activities. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House We almost made it. We are into March. Wasn't this winter a winter to remember? Even January in Florida was one of the coldest in a long time. We are leaving here at the end of March. We have missed so many of you. My mom, Irene Korpák, was with us for a couple weeks. We did all the tourist things, but I just wanted her here with us. We had a great time. We love you, Mom. Gabby was tickled to see her grandma. Get well to all our special people: my buddy Carol Truesdell, Mike Poliska, Betty and Rey Holguin, Emilia Blair and Mike Szopo. May you all feel better real soon. We love you lots. Thanks, Bela Imry, for the info. Bela is chaplain for Motor City Eagles #2265 and a truly supportive Branch 18 member. Welcome back, A1 and Olga Wansa. We missed you so much. Thank you, Emma and Rocky Borsa. You made so many wonderful donations. I used some for Chinese auctions, some for the Christmas party and some for the card party. As usual, none of these events would be such a success without you. Thank you, Irene Korpák, Douglas and Carol Truesdell and Margaret Verdun for remembering the WPA and I for your financial planning. The WPA is hard to beat. Congratulations to Emery J. Breznai (below) on his promotion to second lieutenant. He is the grandson of András and Helen Breznai. Thanks, Helen: the kalacs and stuffed cabbage were unbeatable. Welcome new members Jason, Ariel and Ben Fultz. Thank you, Mary Beth Walker, for choosing the WPA. So sorry to hear about your mom. Special thank you to Joan and Mike Tomcsak. I was thrilled with the gift. It is in my Elvis room. The gift you gave Tommy truly made his day. He is convinced he is a star. Good luck to Mike and Helen Szopo on their move to Las Vegas. Hope you are happy there. Mike will be 84 soon, and Helen will be 83. You are a lot braver than me. Happy birthday to Michael Oberg, one of my favorite kids, Marjorie Forhan, Dan Mayoros, Julius Bubenko, Richard Miastkowski, my dependable, wonderful worker Art Antal, Carol Falwell, Alex Marchelletta, Helen Soltész, Ashley Molnár, my buddy Rey Holguin, Walt Sabo, true friend Rocky Borsa and, last but not least, my friend and hard-working Branch 18 Secretary Rose Antal. May you all have many more. Happy anniversary to Betty and Rey Holguin. They continue to be loyal friends and hard workers. Branch 18 has chosen to support and sponsor three little league baseball teams. They were brought to us by Helen Molnár, Rose Antal and Elena Kline. Thanks, ladies. Good choices all. We hope to see them all play and hope they will all become our newest members. Would you believe we had no deceased members this past month? So, this month we have made our monthly donation to the WPA Scholarship Foundation in honor of Hungarian Ambassador András Simonyi (far left) and his wife, Náda Pejdk, share a moment with Branch 14’s Dawn and Jeff Ward at the Paprika benefit ball held Feb. 22 in Cleveland. 14 Willi« Fen Lile, April 2003
