Branch News Pete and Julia Christopher and Helen Balia enjoy the Branch 296 Bacon Roast held in September. Branch 189 Alliance, OH Lots of fun and excitement capped off the Ladies Auxiliary summer. The Carnation City Festival was the first of our August adventures. The ladies of the auxiliary and their children participated in the Carnation Parade on Aug. 16. We passed along WPA insurance information as well as candy, carnations and WPA logo items. We received many compliments and plan to incorporate more next year. We held our first Ladies Auxiliary golf outing on Aug. 23. We welcomed 36 golfers and had prizes for all. It was the highlight of our summer. Winning first place was the foursome of Steve Gildo, J. Gildo, Roger Arbogast and John Dillon. Two four-somes tied for second: Paul Roudabush, Larry Host, Laurie Bycraft and Art Goodfrey; and Rick White, Scott Carman, Rick Moore and Stacey Kuhns. Skill shot contest winners included: Longest Drive, Steve Gildo and Laurie Bycraft; Closest to the Pin, Steve Gildo and Stacey Kuhns; and Longest Putt, Kenny Nile and Stacey Kuhns. With the help of many local merchants and sponsors, all the golfers walked away with great prizes. We are especially proud of Branch Coordinator Laurie By craft who's first day of golf ended up both profitable and addicting by winning the longest drive for women and being on the second place team. We look forward to more fun next year. We would like to thank the Ladies Auxiliary and the leaders of Branch 189 for their help and cooperation. We are planning a Halloween party for members' children on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. All members' children ages 12 and under are invited to attend. Sign up at the club. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA by Goldie J. Szarka Boldog Hála Adás Napot Kívánunk Mindenkinek. A Happy Thanksgiving is wished to everyone. First of all, sincere apologies to Dr. Joseph Nemeth. In our previous branch news report, we incorrectly identified him as Dr. Joseph Molnár. My fault. I did call Joe and Elvira in Florida and explained the mix-up. Also, heartfelt condolences are extended to the Nemeth family on the recent death of Aladar Nemeth. Get well wishes are sent to Ed and Anna Mae Rietski's daughter Barbara who is recuperating at home. Dr. Victor Molnár underwent bypass surgery at Shadyside Hospital in October. Wishing you a speedy and successful recovery. Congratulations to all our members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries in November, especially Joseph Szarka whose birthday is Nov. 27— Thanksgiving Day. We wish all of you many more in good health. A reminder: The McKeesport Harvest Dance will be held Nov. 8 at the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club. Also, the Branch 226 children's Christmas party will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the White Oak American Legion. For your life insurance needs, please call Alex Goydan at 412-751- 8259. Viszont látás jövő hónapig. See you in December. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Diane M. Torma It was an enjoyable day at our annual Bacon Roast on Sept. 7. Much thanks to the branch officers and members for your hard work in cleaning the church, preparing food and cleaning up afterward. It is your dedication that makes these events possible. A special thanks to Martha Schuller for the many hours you spent in the kitchen preparing all the wonderful food, especially those scrumptious apple pies. It was so nice to see Pete and Julia Christopher and Helen Balia from Leechburg. Thank you also to Pauline Becsi, Margit Kupus, Ethel Hawk and Betty Choltko for spending the day with us. As always, we were happy to have National Director Andy McNelis and Marguerite (thanks for the raffle prize) join us, as well as Membership Activities Manager Endre Csornán with his wife Arlene. Many of the members at our Bacon Roast also attended and volunteered at the third annual WPA Picnic held at Penn Scenic View on Sept. 13. What a terrific day! Threat of gloomy weather did not deter the more than 1,000 people, from near and far, who enjoyed the delicious food, hayrides, music, children's activities and fraternal spirit —all in the spectacular setting of Penn Scenic View. Fratemalism was in action as many, many volunteers gave of their time, treasure and talent to make the day an all-around success. It takes a great deal of planning and organization to pull off such an event, from the 18 ffilliu Pen Life, November 2003
