Happy Thanksgiving to all! Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman Branch 590 held its branch picnic Oct. 9 in Cape Coral. There was plenty of good food, music and fellowship. The weather was beautiful and there was a nice breeze off the river. The picnic kicked off with szalonna sutes followed by stuffed cabbage, kolbász and sauerkraut, baked beans, chicken, potato salad, fruit bowl, chips, hot dogs and several cakes. Everyone said they enjoyed themselves and hated to leave. Winners of the bean bag toss were Julie Nagy and Joe Bartha. Door prize winners were Bob Menner, Bene Toth and Tony Di Giulio. Rose Darab and Eleanor Di Giulio won the half-andhalf drawing, while Carolyn Sudár won the bingo coverall. Music was provided by Mickey Molnár. I want to thank Caroly n Sudár for all of her help. She traveled four hours to attend the picnic. Happy birthday to Chris Damon, Margaret Menner, Vi Timmer Shinski, Ernie Miller and Tony Di Giulio. I recently attended the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. They took us on a tour of the monuments and I was very impressed with the Roosevelt and Korean memorials. My alltime favorite is the Lincoln Memorial. While in DC, I attended a reception at the Hungarian Kossuth House, which holds the offices of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Thanks to the Rev. Stefan Torok, the Rev. Leslie Martin, George Dózsa, Bill Puskas, Terri Pflum and Priscilla Hunyady for inviting us. At the annual meeting, Mike Tomcsak, representing the Florida Fraternal Congress, accepted two awards: one for the Florida congress' participation in Join Hands Day; the other for their charitable endeavors. Also attending the annual meeting were Margo and Anthony Beke. Get well wishes to Ethel Fodor. Hope you're feeling better. On Sept. 13,1 attended the WPA Picnic at Penn Scenic View. We flew into Pittsburgh and then on to Youngstown, Ohio. We went on Branch 28's bus to the picnic. I went dressed as "Daisy the Clown" and got a big kick out of some of the children coming up to me and asking if I remembered them from last year's picnic. 1 did remember some of them and I was happy to see Hannah Csornán. My granddaughter, Sarina Mauerman, is already planning to go next year. She had so much fun and went on her first hayride. She fell asleep on the bus trip back to Youngstown. Our branch Christmas party will be held Dec. 4 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers. We will hold our election meeting prior to the dinner and show. We attended the Grape Harvest dinner and dance Oct. 12 at the Hungarian Club in Plant City. They hold dinners the second Sunday of each month from September to May. I hope you all have a very healthy and happy Thanksgiving. I will be in Crawford, Texas, spending the holiday with my son Danny and his family. The event will feature the music of Gypsy, the world-famous six-piece orchestra, as well as the beautiful and talented opera singer Ibolya Nagy from Budapest.
