The branch will hold its annual meeting and election of officers at the American Hungarian Club at 3:30 p.m, on Sunday Dec. 7. All adult lifebenefit members are encouraged to attend. For information about WPA insurance and annuity policies, please contact our Branch Coordinator Maria Bistey at 412-431-6035. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ by Martha Barillo On Sept. 13,2003, at Penn Scenic View, we were witnesses to these two words: Fratemalism and Comradery; fratemalism at its best, the comradery of people from 10 states, children young and old melted into one family. The 13 miners who founded the WPA would have been proud of our celebration of our Hungarian heritage. We are proud of all the men and Branch News women who worked so hard for days on the picnic. These volunteers prepared food for more than 1,000 people, set up the grounds, served all day long and cleaned up with no complaints. May God bless you and give you the strength to do this for a long time to come. Our hats are off to Endre and Arlene Csornán and their family for chairing this great event. The food was excellent-four cauldrons of goulash (!), pork with sauerkraut, kolbász, cabbage noodles, lecsó and stuffed cabbage. The langos and bacon roast were great successes, too. The ladies baked delicious pastries and palacsinta. Last, but not least, was the fabulous Chinese auction for the benefit of the scholarship foundation. Believe me, it was worth every dollar. The donors were very, very generous. Congratulations to Dianne Charles and her committee on a job well done (even though I didn't win anything). Congratulations to all those elected to serve on the WPA Board of Directors and National Auditing Committee during the General Convention, especially new Chairman of the Board Steve Varga. We ask God's help to keep you honest and conscientious as your serve the WPA and its members. There also was a Chinese auction during the convention and, guess what, I didn't win. Branch 51 will hold its election of officers on Dec. 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the American Hungarian Citizens League in Garfield, N.J. All adult life-benefit members are encouraged to attend this very important meeting. Following the meeting, we will host the children's Christmas party at 2:00 p.m. The festivities will include a clown, Santa and refreshments. Please bring your children, grandchildren and a friend or two. Dear members, we ask for your prayers for members who are carrying heavy burdens in sickness and otherwise. May God give them and their caregivers the strength and patience to bear their burdens. We wish Ernie Mozer, branch coordinator and former National Auditing Committee member, a quick recovery from his recent surgery. May the Blessed Mother, the patron saint of the Magyars, intercede for us now and always. Let us pray for each other. Branch 129 Columbus, OH _ by Árpád Sibrik One of the wettest summers in a very long time is finally over, and fall started out 10 to 15 degrees cooler than normal here in central Ohio. I sure hope this is not a taste of things to come this winter. We are making plans for our family Christmas party to be held Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post on South High Street, Columbus. Admission is $5 for WPA members and $10 for non-members. The party will feature delicious Hungarian food, a cash bar and free soft drinks. Members up to age 15 each will receive a $5 gift and other goodies. Invitations will be in the mail soon. Get well wishes are sent to Steve Rezes, who fell and broke his hip but is now recovering, and to Elizabeth Pate, who was recently under the weather. Best wishes are also sent to Almást Bedrosian who is at home recuperating after a recent stay in the hospital. Our condolences go to the family of Rose Komives, who passed away recently. May she rest in peace. My wife, Piri, underwent laser surgery on both eyes for glaucoma and is doing well. Our granddaughter and her husband went on a cruise as a belated honeymoon. On Aug. 15, our area had five inches of rain in one hour. The whole east side was flooded. It looked like a big lake. The sewers couldn't handle all the water, so it ended up in many people's basements. We had over three feet of water in our basement. It ruined everything there. The carpenters just finished installing new paneling and setting in the new appliances. What a mess. For any life insurance or annuity needs, please call Arpad Sibrik at 614- 231-8024, or write to 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209. Williu Pen Life, November 2003 17
