Branch 28 by Kathy Novak What a wonderful experience my first General Convention proved to be. The Home Office staff proved what a professional and outstanding company the WPA truly is. On behalf of Steve Novak and Frank Schauer (the delegates representing District 20) and myself (attending as a member of the National Advisory Committee), I send a big thank you to our members for allowing us to attend the Convention. Warm congratulations go out to the new Board of Directors and their new Chairman Steve Varga. Sincere thanks to those who have been serving and working these past four years for us. It was so wonderful to be able to meet so many of the Home Office staff and the many members in attendance and to spend time with those friends we have made throughout our years of involvement in the WPA. The work that was accomplished and all the social gatherings provided three full days of activities. I'm looking forward to sharing with you next month news about Branch 28's bus trip to the WPA picnic at Penn Scenic View. Best of luck to Frank, Liz, Rachel and Jeremy Schauer who will be leaving the windy city of Chicago to relocate to sunny Florida. Frank will be starting a new job there with the Verizon company. It's nice to see the Nemeth family all back on the road to recovery. Irene and daughter Irene Delvio both recently underwent surgery. Daughter Tina also had some health problems. Watch your local paper for the location, date and time of our October branch meeting. Also, watch for more information about three upcoming events:- The Fall Festival to be held at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 854 Wilson Ave., on Sunday, Oct. 19. For more information call 330-743-1905.- WPA Branch 28's gathering to honor our 50-year members.- Our annual children's Christmas party to be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at a new location—the Shrine of the Afflicted Social Hall (monastery) on Belle Vista Avenue. Warm congratulations to all those celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Sincere sympathy to all those members who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. Szarka Hull a fáról a falevél, Fuj dogalja az őszi Szél. (The leaves are falling, blowing in the Autumn wind.) Greetings to all of our WPA members. A special "hello" to Dr. Joseph Molnár of Bowling Green, Ohio, a former McKeesporter. I heard from your cousin here in McKeesport that you are one of our readers of the branch news. I have known Joseph, his brother Aladar, his sister Johanna and his wonderful parents since I was a teenager attending the Hungarian church and youth fellowship in downtown McKeesport. Our best to you and your dear wife Elvira-whose hometown is Springdale, Pa. It's such a good feeling when you see or hear from people from your hometown. At the McKeesport International Village it was nice to talk to Violet Jones (another former McKeesporter) and her husband Russell. They live in Forest Hills, Pa. They enjoy reading the branch news, especially McKeesport's. The ladies down at the church informed me that they were so glad to see at the Village festivities WPA national directors Anthony Beke (with Marguerite), A1 Vargo (with Betty) and Elmer Toth (with Ruth) as well as Membership Activities Coordinator Endre Csornán (with Arlene). I'm sure they enjoyed themselves. The Village was a huge success. At the WPA General Convention in Pittsburgh, I chatted with Schorlis Gotz who now lives in California but originally lived in the Tri-State area. She told me she has fond memories of all the great Magyar picnics at Tapsula's Farm, Hines Grove and Kossuth Park. Oh, those were the days! She just returned home from visiting Tatabanya, Hungary, which is one town up from Bicske. Speaking of Hungary, if you want to try a good Chinese restaurant, go to the one on Rákóczi Ut in Budapest. The food is delicious and the owners speak Hungarian. Thanks, to Mrs. Willi» Pen Lile, October 2003 17
