home for abused women and their children. This activity will take place on Saturday, June 21. Donations and helping hands are always welcome. Please remember our troops in your prayers. May they come home safely and soon. Have a wonderful Memorial Day. Pray for all those who made America free. Pray for peace. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Happy Spring! Finally, the weather is in agreement with the time of the year. It is so nice to be able to enjoy the outdoors again. Congratulations to the Szabó family on the recent new additions. Best wishes to Alan and Lori, as well as Ernie and Kim. Hungarian music lovers in the Youngstown area will be glad to know WKTL-90.7 FM, the radio station of Struthers High School, is back on the air. Andrew Check hosts the Saturday Hungarian radio program from noon to 1:30 p.m. A very nice trip to Mountaineer Gaming Center in West Virginia was had by a group of Branch 28 members. At least one of the members traveling with us came back a winner. Our members are always looking for something new to do together as a branch function. We hope another trip will be planned for the near future. Keep in mind the WPA Picnic to be held this September at Penn Scenic View. Youngstown area Hungarians are planning to organize a bus trip to Pennsylvania for this wonderful event. We will let you know the details as soon as they are available. We are looking forward to seeing many of our fellow WPA members in Pittsburgh at the annual bowling tournament awards dinner. Best wishes to everyone celebrating either a birthday or anniversary this month. May your day be a special one, enjoyed in good health. We extend our deepest sympathy to all those who have experienced recently the loss of a loved one. Branch News Each year, Memorial Day allows us to reflect on the fallen heroes of our country. This year, with the conflict in Iraq taking place, we are again reminded of the high cost of freedom. For your life insurance needs, call Alan Szabó at 330-482-9994 or Kathy Novak at 330-746-7704. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA by Jack Tokár In Philadelphia we held a program at the Hungarian Club commemorating the 1848-49 Magyar freedom revolution. The program's master of ceremonies was Gyongi Harta. As usual, she did an excellent job leading individuals in their part of the program. Of course, at the program's conclusion, we sang "Isten áldd meg a Magyart" and the Székely Himnusz. Afterwards we enjoyed a very tasty dinner and fraternal fellowship. A big hello and thank you to Rosalie Gogosh for insuring her grandchildren with the WPA. Our newest members are Sean McDevitt and Shirley DeMaria, along with her daughter Kady. Welcome to our William Penn Fraternal Family. Happy birthday wishes go out to Marianne Mezei. As all of you know, our monthly meetings are held on the last Friday of every month at 8:00 p.m. at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. All members are welcome to attend. I want to thank the WPA staff for all of their kind help. It is appreciated. Wishing everyone an enjoyable spring and summer. For your annuity and life insurance needs, please call Jack Tokár at 215-357-4516. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA by Goldie J. Szarka Boldog Anyák Napját Kívánok. Happy Mother's Day. Happy birthday and anniversary wishes are being sent to all our members celebrating the same in the merry month of May. May you enjoy many more in good health. Remember: the secret is to live a long time without growing old. Congratulations to Branch 226 member Barbara Sheedy who will be teaching middle/high school Sunday school class at the Free Hungarian Reformed Church in McKeesport. I have known Barbara for many years and am confident she will do a terrific job teaching. A reminder to young members entering college-mail your applications for the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation grants by May 31. Three men's teams and two women's teams from Branch 226 will participate in the 60th Annual Bowling Tournament to be held in Pittsburgh this month. The Pittsburgh Folk Festival will be held May 23 to 25 at Heinz Field and local Hungarians will take part. Kudos to Judit and Noemi Borsay, daughters of the Rev. Dr. Daniel and Judit Borsay, who performed in McKeesport High School's student production of "The Pajama Game." My husband and I had the privilege of seeing this production, and I must say it was absolutely delightful. Memorial Day is just around the corner, along with VE Day (May 8) and Armed Forces Day (May 17). Fly the American flag to honor these holidays and the men and women we remember on these special days, espcially those involved in the present conflict. Precious memories enter my mind when I think of Memorial Day. In our household, this day was the start of the picnic season, with our first szalonna sütés (bacon fry). Family and friends gathered with their sticks, bacon, rye bread and trimmings. With this event we welcomed the coming of summer. That greasy bread is so delicious...but watch your cholesterol. Jó étvágyat mindenkinek (Good appetite to all.) Williu Pen life, May 2003 17
