V branch News phone number is (215) 543-8876. Among WPA members attending were Branch Vice President Stephen Pokorny, Branch Auditor James Pokorny, Richard Gyuraki (whose grandchildren are members), and the Mezei family (mother Aronka, son Csaba, daughter Anita and cousin Zoltán Harta and his wife Gyöngyi). Our newest members, Marti and John Tegzes, were also there, busy helping to serve the delicious food. There were a number of out-oftown guests without Hungarian backgrounds who have become members of the WPA, thanks to the efforts of longtime WPA sales representative Floyd Bryan and his wife Dolly. Floyd and Dolly enjoyed themselves so much they wanted to join the club. Janos Kiss brought another outof-town guest, the Rev. Mészáros, formerly of the Pittsburgh area and now living in Bethlehem, Pa. He praised the WPA for keeping up the Hungarian language, traditions and culture and for all the good work the WPA has done for charity. Branch 89 Homestead, PA By Ruth D. Toth Branch 89 held its children's Christmas party on Dec. 9 at the Homeville Fire Hall. As the children entered they were given a bag of goodies. Elmer Toth, vice chairman of the WPA Board and president of Branch 89, welcomed everyone and introduced former National Director William C. Kohut, who donated the fruit for the bags. Magician Dustin Ashbaugh performed for those gathered and was fabulous. He and his assistant kept the audience in awe. A buffet luncheon was served, followed by the singing of Christmas carols and the long-awaited arrival of Santa, who entered the hall to the strains of "Jingle Bells". Santa, along with his helpers, gave canes filled with candy and a two dollar bill to all the children. He wished all a merry Christmas and a happy new year. The party was a success and an enjoyable time for all. Those who helped make the party a success were; Elaine Toth, Lisa Susan Toth, Tim and Justin Toth, Richard Toth, Helen Shumaker and Elmer and Ruth Toth. We thank the National Officers and Board of Directors for making this party a success. Branch 89 wishes them, the Home Office employees and all WPA members a happy, healthy new year. A short meeting was held after the party to elect officers for the year 2001. Those elected were: Elmer Toth, president; Richard Toth, vice president; Ruth Toth, secretarytreasurer; Elaine Toth, auditor; and Lisa Toth, auditor. / Branch 90 \ Allentown, PA Branch 98 Bethlehem, PA Branch 216 Northampton, PA Our annual family Christmas party was jointly sponsored by Branches 90, 98 and 216 on Dec. 6 at the McDonald's Restaurant in Emmaus, Pa. It was a beautiful, warm and sunny afternoon-just right for a social get-together. Children and their parents and grandparents gathered for the annual affair. Everyone enjoyed the good food and each other's company. After lunch we sang Christmas carols and during "Jingle Bells", Santa made his grand entrance with a hearty "Ho! Ho! Ho!" Each child sat on Santa's lap and told him what each wanted for Christmas. Santa gave each child a book, certificate and bag of goodies. The goodies included candy, fruit, coloring books, crayons, pencils, pens, rulers and yo-yos. The flashing yo-yos were the big hit of the day with not only the children but also the adults. A special thank you goes to the Home Office staff, National Officers and Board of Directors for their assistance in making our annual party such a great success. Also, thanks to our Santa, Robert Kovach. We extend to everyone our wishes for a happy new year. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By Caroline Varner Branch 159 met at Burger King on Dec. 3 for the annual family Christmas party. It was delightful to see so many new faces that never attended before. We hope that you continue to come to our party, as we enjoyed having you. The traditional WPA bags were handed out to each family~a little something to please everyone. The lighted yo-yos were a big hit with the children as well as some of the adults. After a hearty meal, mothers' names were pulled for door prizes. Sandy Sera led the group in singing several Christmas carols while the gfbqp awaited Santa's arrival. TWhen Santa arrived, the children anxiously greeted him and sat on his lap for individual picture-taking and making their special requests for Christmas gifts. It was a joy to watch the reactions of the children as they bonded with Santa. Some were absolutely mesmerized and completely forgot what they wanted for Christmas, while others had never-ending lists. After all the pictures were taken, Santa (our own Temple Coldren) called on each child to present each with a gift and candy. Thank you, Temple, for doing such a terrific job. Also, a big thank you to all who helped with the party, especially the Home Office and Board of Directors for their generous help that makes this affair possible. Remember: we are one of the finest fraternal insurance societies in the country. Keep us in mind when your family needs life insurance or annuities. Also, please continue supporting our scholarship fund. For your life insurance needs please contact Caroline Varner at (610) 933-8391.
