Congratulations to Steve Charles for being named to the 1999/2000 edition of "Who's Who Among American High School Students." This is Steve's second year to be listed in such a prominent publication. We are proud of you. So, now we go on with Operation Christmas Child. From what I hear some WPA branches have already started with this project. I know Barbara House and Branch 18 are off to a good start. Thanks, Jack, for committing the Rotary this year. A1 and Betty: it's time to motivate your girls and their families. A little bird told me that Haley is waiting to be a big help again. By the way, Ruth, don't forget to put the Operation Christmas Child notice in your church bulletin. The donations you collected last year were wonderful. Ethel and Lou: it's time to charm those shoe boxes out of Charlene and Rick. And Joanne-way, way up there in Connecticut: we want your help, too. With all those feet in your family, I'm sure there are a lot of shoe boxes you and Bill can contribute. Let's go people. Get us those shoe boxes. Since I am Irish, I feel compelled to wish you all a happy St. Patrick's Day with this Irish blessing: May God give you rainbow skies above, the good green earth beneath your feet... A happy song within your heart, a smile on every face you meet... God give you peaceful sunsets and contentment in your fireside chair... Above all else, God give you love to warm your life... and some to share.... Enjoy the day. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman We would like to thank the Home Office for the donation for our Christmas party which was held Dec. 10 at the Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers. The show and dinner were a huge success. Prior to the dinner a meeting was held to elect officers for 2000. Elected were: Mike Tomcsak, president; Bill Bartus, vice president; Joan Mauerman, secretary-treasurer; and Jodi Dues, auditor. Tony Di Guilio swore in the new officers. Door prize winners were Elizabeth Posey and Irene Redden. Winners of the half-and-half drawing were Helen Rosner and Julia McGrath. Our branch also donated three holiday baskets to the less fortunate. Our first meeting of the year was held Jan. 8 in Egret Hall, Cape Coral. Plans were discussed for the year's activities. Norris McGrath will gather information on the Babcock Ranch. The members would like to have the Christmas party at the dinner theater again. Final plans will be made at the March meeting. Tickets were distributed for the scholarship raffle. The drawing will be held at the May meeting. Door prize winners in January were Eleanor Di Guilio, Art Shinski and John Lesko. Julia McGrath and Sara Lesko won the half-and-half raffle. Thanks to our bakers, Helen Toth and Irene Franko. A special hello to Nellie Daniels in Port Orange, Fla., Colleen Dailey in 18 William Pm Lili, March 2000
