Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Ml by Barbara A. House Happy St. Patrick's Day. Spring is here! We really didn't have all that terrible snow as some of you did. Tommy and I broke it up and spent about a month in Florida in January. That really helped. I'm still ready for spring. Happy spring birthday to some special people: Helen Molnár, Cassie Holmes at the Home Office, National Director Andy McNelis, retired Chairman of the Board Mike Hrabar, and my honey and tireless supporter Tommy. May you all have many more. We had a lovely group representing the WPA at the White Rose Ball in February. Many thanks to the Home Office for sponsoring our table and the Ball. Get well wishes to Emilia Blair. You were missed. Congratulations to Anthony C. Beke, chairman of the Board and special Branch 18 friend. Anthony will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the American Hungarian Foundation at its Carousel Ball in June. Way to go, my friend! Please remember in your prayers the families of our deceased members, especially Virgil Baker, Joseph Ferko, Zolié Molnár (husband of our friend Ethel), Helen Rotter and Frank Toth (brother of our friend Emilia Blair). Remember also Josephine Imry, wife of Bela, our active member. May they all rest in peace. Please mark your calendars for all these super events and meetings: • We meet at the Hungarian American Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m. Dates for our next five meetings are April 13, May 12, June 16, Aug. 4 and Sept. 8. (No meeting in July.) Please try to join us. A special thank you to all our members for the overwhelming attendance and support of your branch. We will start meeting in a larger room. • On March 20 we will sponsor a bingo at the Vets Hospital in Ann Arbor. Transportation will be provided. Helpers are needed. I WPA Chairman of the Board Anthony C. Beke and his wife Marguerite (center couple) attended the annual White Rose Ball in Michigan with Branch 18 members (from left) Joann and Ernie Mayoros, Carol and Doug Truesdell, Barbara and Tom House and Betty and Rey Holguin. • Our annual picnic will be Aug. 6. • Oct. 29 is the date for our 50-year member banquet. • On Nov. 26 we will host our annual card party. • Our family Christmas party will be held Dec. 10. We are looking for people planning to attend our bowling tournament in Cleveland. Please call me for information. Branch 18 always does well. Welcome and thanks to our new members: Daniel, Brandi, Carianne, Hayley, Brooke, Derek and Peter Mayors; Tara Blancarte (thanks Joann and Ernie for choosing the WPA); my friend Veronica Lassen; and my son-in-law Glenn Wolfe. Our Charity-of-the-Month is Penrickton Center for Blind Children. Remember: your Niagara Falls money is due. Where else can you go for two nights and three days for $85.00? Come join us. For all your life insurance and annuity needs, or to share your news, call me at (313) 383-4472. Thank you Emilia Blair for thinking of the WPA. Love you. As you can see, we have many things of interest in your branch. Please come and join us. We really have a good time. Happy birthday, Tommy. I love you. f Eranch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Happy Shamrock Day! With spring fast approaching, summer can't be too far away. And with that thought comes plans for summer activities. In lieu of the annual Branch 28 summer picnic, the committee is looking into scheduling a trip to New Jersey for the annual Hungarian festival. More details and a final decision will be on the agenda for our next meeting, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Boardman Country Kitchen. A commemoration of the 1848 War of Independence will be held Sunday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 854 Wilson Ave. The program includes traditional songs and poems and a presentation by Ohio State Sen. Robert Hagan and László Pastor. The event is being hosted by the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation. Keep in mind the bowling tournament since it will be held close to us in Cleveland. Let's try to have a nice representation from Branch 28. A big thank you to the Home Office for supporting the U.S. tour of "Csárdás." Within a matter of two weeks, Youngstowners filled a bus for a trip to the Lakéwood performance. All who saw the show were impressed by the talented performers. RHIin fíii Lile, March 2000 17
