an excellent time. There was much food and drink and laughter as a large group of couples danced to the csárdás and other Hungarian music. One of the familiar faces in attendance was longtime member Richard Gyuraki, whose grandchildren are young members of the WPA. Also, on Nov. 18, the Magyar Otthon held an appreciation program for those who have provided long standing support and dedication to the Club. The program was followed by dinner. We thank all of you for joining our WPA fraternal family. May your days be happy and healthy ones always. We also want to wish all the best for the holidays to our former coordinator, Stephen Szemes, and his wife Elsie, as well as to all the officers, staff and members of the WPA. Have a blessed holiday and a healthy and happy new year. Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Árpád Sibrik Our branch will hold its family Christmas party on Dec. 9 at the VFW Post 495 on South Princeton Avenue in Columbus, starting at 1:00 p.m. Food will be served at 2:00 p.m. The menu will include cabbage rolls, kolbász, breaded fried chicken, escalloped potatoes, sauerkraut, pastries and refreshments. After dinner Santa is scheduled to arrive to give $5 bills to WPA Branch 129 children ages 15 and under. He'll also hand out candy, coloring books, crayons and other goodies to the children, as well as 2001 calendars to the adults. The party will also feature a holiday sing-along and performances by our branch's youngsters on their musical instruments. Branch Secretary Margaret Leonardo has sent invitations to the members and children. Please call and make your reservations so we know how many will attend. Bonnie Tokár underwent knee replacement surgery on both legs this year. She is doing fine and has returned to work. Yolanda Barney also had knee surgery this summer. She is doing very well, but regrets she couldn't attend the WPA's Hungarian Language Camp this year. Yolanda thanks the Home Office for the get well wishes. Elizabeth Pate underwent eye surgery and is now recovering nicely. Janet Veigh underwent hip replacement surgery in November. We wish the above members, and all our sick or recuperating members, a quick return to full health. We will have our branch meeting on Dec. 13 at the Hungarian Church, 365 E. Woodrow Ave., Columbus. The church will now serve as the location for all our branch meetings. For any life insurance and annuity needs, please call me at (614) 231- 8024 or write to me at 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA By Alexander J. Goydan Branch 226 will host its annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the White Oak American Legion Hall, starting at 2:30 p.m. There will be entertainment and a Christmas buffet and refreshments supplied by Stans Catering. Santa Claus will once again stop by to give gifts to all children ages 0 to 12. We are looking for a record turnout. Please return your reservation cards as soon as you get them, or call Violet Lenart, branch treasurer, at (412) 664-9060, or Alexander J. Goydan, branch secretary, at (412) 751-8259. Branch 226 officers—President Michael Benedict, Vice President Bette Hoffman, Treasurer Lenart, Secretary Goydan, and auditors Joseph and Goldie Szarka-wish all our members and their families a very, very Merry Christmas and a good and prosperous and healthy new year. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman Our branch picnic was held Oct. 21 in Cape Coral. We had a terrific turnout. The Joseph Mekler family traveled 400 miles to attend. The bacon fry was a huge success. Door prize winners were Irene Franko, Helen Rosner, Corinne Metzger, Art Shinski and Julie Richards. Joe Mekler Jr. and Joe Sr. were the winners of the half-andhalf raffle. A fraternal welcome was given to Jack and Julie Richards of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Youngstown and Warren, Ohio. Condolences to the family of Betty Bartus who passed away Sept. 17. Betty served as branch treasurer for 20 years. She leaves two sons, James of Hawthorne, 111., and William of Cape Coral. May she rest in peace. We are happy to hear Elizabeth Posey is feeling better. Cards may be mailed to her at Springwood Court, 12780 Kenwood Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Thank you to our members who contributed to our Operation Christmas Child 2000 campaign. With your help, we exceeded our goal. If you did not participate this year, please plan to make a contribution next year. Welcome to our two newest 18 IVilliam Penn Lilf. November 2000
