Mozer, Sr. There are many smiling faces in northern New Jersey. Word has gotten around that Branch 51 will hold its annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 3. The election of branch officers will be held on the same date. The election will be held at 1:00 p.m. and our family Christmas party will start at 2:00 p.m. Both events will be held at the American Hungarian Club, 21 New Schley St., Garfield. We are looking forward to seeing all juvenile members and their families. A good time will be had by all. We wish all that are celebrating birthdays and/or anniversaries this month happiness and the best of health. Special congratulations go to Hedy and Joe Baumgartner who recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Joe has been an officer of Branch 51 for many years and currently serves as a branch auditor. Art Barillo, Branch 51 president, recently retired. We wish him all the best during his retirement years. We also wish everyone a bountiful Thanksgiving holiday. We look forward to seeing all of you on Dec. 3 for an enjoyable and fraternal afternoon. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Anne Marie Schmidt We wish all our members a very happy Thanksgiving as we reflect during this special season on the many blessings bestowed upon us. The fall has been a busy time for Branch 249. Our bowling league resumed in September and is once again bowling at Pla-Mor Lanes on Sunday afternoons. It is good to see new faces as well as the familiar ones. We had a very successful cabbage roll sale in September. Our orders exceeded 1,000 and continue to increase. Many thanks to all the ladies who so willingly help with this event. We couldn't do it without your gracious help and expertise. Congratulations to John and Mary Tuss who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all who have been ill, especially Mike Mayerchak and Ann Taylor. Many thanks to Anne Marie Barger and her students at Bishop Fenwick High School in Middletown, Ohio, for their outstanding contribution of 128 gift boxes to Operation Christmas Child. What a wonderful example and act of fraternalism our young citizens displayed. On Oct. 17, the "Music of Hungary" program held its fall fund raiser at WQRP radio. Our deepest thanks to the WPA members and listeners who so generously support the continuation of this program. Branch 249 was proud to have Branch President Anne Kertesz present Dr. Bela Bognár with a contribution to the Hungarian Ancestry Scholarship Fund at Wright State University. Dr. Bognár has done a remarkable job in raising funds to help students of Hungarian ancestry finance their education at WSU. Plans are underway for the annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 10 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Church hall. The traditional sausage dinner will be served. There will also be fun activities for all and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus. For information about WPA life insurance and our branch activities, please call Michele and Steve La Flame at (937) 278-5970. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Diane M. Torma Members of Branch 296 were saddened by the recent death of Julius Kupus, a longtime loyal member of the WPA. Julius participated in many branch activities and bacon roasts and enjoyed years of attending WPA golf tournaments. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife, Margit. Julius will be missed by all of us. We also offer condolences to the family of Mary Wesoloski, another longtime faithful member. Gone, but not forgotten, may Julius and Mary rest in peace. Get well wishes go out to Helen Gosciejew, who is hospitalized, and to Sue Molnár. We miss you both at our meetings. We also extend wishes to Bob Cina, who has been on a long road to recovery.
