and got acquainted with the children before handing out gifts and candy. A photo session and a chance to sit on Santa's lap followed. Thank you, Temple, for a beautiful job well done. The names of several of the Moms in attendance were drawn and they were given a door prize. A big thank you to all who helped with the party, especially the Home Office and Board of Directors whose financial help makes this event possible. Goydan Branch 226 unanimously reelected its officers for the year 2000 during a meeting held Dec. 12,1999, at the McKeesport Hungarian Club. Reelected were: Michael Benedict, president; Bette Hoffman, vice president; Violet Lenart, treasurer; Alexander J. Goydan, secretary; and Joseph Szarka and Goldie Szarka, auditors. Changes had to be made to our annual Christmas party plans. Some 90 letters/invitations and gift certificates were sent to our faithful members ages 12 and under. The certificates were valid at any McDonald's where Santa Claus and Ronald McDonald entertained the children when they appeared. Since Dec. 18, we have received many good reports about young members who used their certificates. Our holiday basket recipients-The Intersection of McKeesport and Central Food Bank of Elizabeth Township-sent us thanks for the gifts to feed the hungry during the holiday season. It's always nice to hear from faraway members who once lived here and joined the Association when they were very young. They read our branch write-ups and comment how they look forward to reading about our former activities. Thanks to Elizabeth Ferency of California for her recent note. Submissions for the February issue of the WtTft’am Penn Life are due in our office by January 24. We extend a warm welcome to Shawn P. and Alex T. Murray, the twin sons of James and Irma Downham. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dianne A. Charles Happy New Year to everyone. May it be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for aÚ of you. It's hard to believe it is the year 2000. Our family Christmas party at SportsHaven Bowl in Bridgeville was a huge success. The catered lunch was delicious. The bowling was entertaining (yes, Dave, I mean you). And the children were delighted to receive their gifts from Santa (Jim Deak) and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Our thanks to everyone who helped organize this annual party and to the Home Office for its generous party allotment, children's gifts and calendars. Thank you, Mrs. Deak, for the delicious baked goods. Also, a big thank you to everyone who attended and brought non-perishable items for the Crafton-Ingram Food Pantry. We collected more this year than in any prior year. We received a thank you card from the food pantry that said they were extremely grateful for our donations. Thank you, Mrs. Bracken, for your monetary donation. We made good use of the money. On Dec. 11 we held our branch meeting at Old Country Buffet in Bridgeville and elected our officers for the year. Elected were: George S. Charles Jr., president; Jim Deak, vice president; Barb Kapinus, secretary; Bob Kapinus, treasurer; and Dianne Charles, Barb Furedy and Fran Furedy, auditors. Congratulations to all of you. On Dec. 18 Santa (Jim Deak) and his elves (Linda Deak, Bob and Barb Kapinus and George and Dianne Charles) visited 45 residents of the Elder Crest Nursing Home in Munhall. We had a wonderful time. Santa used his magic and brightened everyone's day. We spent some time with the residents, sang "Jingle Bells" and gave each a gift. I even made a special new friend, John, who seems to think I have an "in" with Santa. He said he knew it was too late for this past Christmas, but could I see what I can do about getting Santa to give him a red Mercedes next year. I told him I'd see what I can do. I guess we should all have dreams. It was a very heart warming experience for all of us. At Country Meadows Nursing Home, we gave gifts and candy bags to eight residents without families and candy / gift bags to 64 other residents. Thanks, Jack, for making the deliveries. (I know you are reading this.) We hope these gifts made the holiday season brighter for all who received them. I know it made us feel good. It was so difficult for us to find recipients for our holiday baskets that we decided instead, at our December branch meeting, to give these gifts to nursing home residents and donate to a local food bank. We used money raised through our branch raffle and the funds set aside for our holiday 16 WilliM Pm Life, January 2000
