We also have received donations from the following individuals: Albert J. Stelkovics of Delray Beach, Fla.; Pauline and William Bracken of Pittsburgh; Joseph Milak of Franklin, N.J.; Lillian Smith of Palmer, Mass.; John Rusak of New Kensington, Pa.; Althea Tracey of Scott Twp., Pa.; the Chaussard family of Scott Twp.; Barbara House of Lincoln Park, Mich.; Carol Truesdell of Lincoln Park; Ethel and Lou Fodor of Weirton, W.Va., Marguerite and Anthony Beke of Crosswicks, N.J.; Ruth and Elmer Toth of Munhall, Pa.; Elsie and Frank Radvany of Morrisville, Pa.; and Jennie Wislie of Brackenridge, Pa. Thanks also to the Chartiers Valley Council of Republican Woman for their donation to our campaign. My role as coordinator of this Association-wide charitable project has gotten a bit easier. I have a youth volunteer this year. His name is Zane Chaussard, and he is just wonderful. Zane is 13 years old and an eighth grader in the Chartiers Valley School District. He prepares letters, stuffs envelopes, distributes information packets, collects donated boxes and items, and fills, wraps and tags the shoe boxes for shipping. His 8-year-old sister Kylie helped us fill shoe boxes on one occasion. I have to say Zane has been a pleasure to work with on this project. He does it all with a smile. His mom and dad, Charma and Gene Chaussard, should be very proud of him. I know I am. He truly has been a big help. Happy birthday to Jack McKinney who is celebrating his special day this month. See, Jack, now you are OLDER THAN ME. Ha! Happy birthday to two special people, my father-in-law George Charles and my brother-in-law Jim Charles. Both celebrate their day this month. May you have many more. And to all Branch 352 members who have an occasion coming up, celebrate and enjoy your very special day. My best wishes to everyone. Happy Mother's Day. Branch 525 'N Los Angeles, CA ) by Schorlis Gotz We survived the Christmas holidays and our Christmas party was a huge success. New Year's came and went with no glitches due to the millenium bug. Valentine's Day was sweet, a day to remember our loved ones. This Easter was the first that Andy and I did not spend with our family. Instead, we escorted a group to Europe for a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. We were looking forward to this trip with much anticipation. We could hardly wait to go shopping on Váci Utca. It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of one of our members, John Balint. John was a member of the Rákóczi Aid Association before the merger to form the WPA and remained a vital and active member long after the merger. He served as president of our branch for many years. He delighted the children every year at our Christmas party playing the part of the "Old Krampust." He encouraged Andy and I to keep the branch going and to continue promoting the Hungarian traditions and language and to never forget our Hungarian heritage. We will miss seeing that twinkle in his eyes as he sang all those wonderful Hungarian songs. For all your life insurance needs, please call Andrew Gotz at (909) 429- 0902. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14. To all you wonderful mothers out there: Happy Mother's Day. I hope beautiful weather is in store for all of you on your day. God bless all of you. Branch 800 congratulates member David Greiner for being picked as the first contestant on Altoona radio station WFBG's new quiz show, "Who Wants to Win $10,000?" Dave was unable to win the big prize, but he did win a monetary prize on the first question he answered correctly. The Rev. George D. Khorchik, the newly appointed chaplain at St. Dismas Parish in the state correctional prison at Huntingdon, Pa., sent a thank you letter to the branch in which he expressed his gratitude for the branch's annual donation to the prison. He stated the funds will help considerably in providing religious education materials for the prisoners, as well as other needs of the parish. Father George thanked the branch on behalf of the inmates and parishioners for our ongoing concern for their spiritual welfare. After our May meeting, our branch will recess for the summer months. Our next branch meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Day will be observed on May 29. It is a day for Americans to remember those men and women who lost their lives in the service of our country. Memorial Day is especially important to veterans and the families of veterans. Take the opportunity to salute those who have gone before us. If you are looking for good fraternal life insurance for your soon-to-bebom child, why not look into what the WPA has to offer? Call Bob Jones at (814) 942-2661 for the plans we offer. Continued on Inside Back Cover Willi» Pen Lile, May 2000 19
