The bad news is that the deadline for the June tour has come and gone. The good news is that there is still time to sign up for the September tour. However, those interested in joining the September tour should make their reservations as soon as possible. Seats for the September tour are filling fast, and if you wait too long to reserve your seat, you could wind up on a waiting list. Those wishing to join the Sep­tember tour can call Fugazy Inter­national Travel toll-free at 1-800- 828-4488 (New Jersey residents should dial 1-732-828-4488). Or, you can complete the reservation form found in this issue of the Wil­liam Penn Life and send it to the address shown on the form. The tour will ran from Sept. 10 to 24. The itinerary for the tour be­gins in Budapest and ends in Vienna. The tour will include visits to Sopron, Sárvár, Győr, Kecskemet, Szolnok, Hortobágy, Debrecen, Eger, Godollo, Szentendr and Esztergom. You will also visit Lake Balaton, the Herend porcelain fac­tory and museum, the Benedictine Abbey in Pannon-halma, the Tokaj wine region, the Citadel and all of Budapest’s famous sights. Guests will enjoy lunch at a NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Jim Cahill, mayor of New Brunswick, and Dr. Frank Mate of Gaithersburg, Md., have been named this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Service Award of the American Hungarian Foundation. They received their awards April 25 at the Foundation’s 35th Annual Carousel Ball held at the Shackamaxon Golf and Country Club in Scotch Plains, N.J. Dr. Mate, now retired from pri­vate practice in pediatric medicine, was founding director of the Clinic for Exceptional Children at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. His pioneering work in pediatric medicine earned him the university’s Vicennial Medal. A native of New Brunswick, Dr. Mate is a graduate of Dartmouth College and George Washington University School of Medicine. Mayor Cahill is being recog­nized for his eminent civic, com­munity, humanitarian and political leadership and as a public servant dedicated to elevating the quality of life, enriching the cultural fabric of all in New Brunswick and con­tinuing to bring community revital­ization to the city. He is also being Hungary Hortobágy csarda, a sightseeing cruise on the Danube River, and plenty of free time to explore, shop or relax. The tour will conclude with a two-night stay in Vienna, the City of Music. On the final night of the tour, everyone will gather for a gala farewell dinner. The cost of the tour is $3,149* per person, based on double occu­pancy. Single accommodations can be reserved for an additional $550. honored for furthering people to people relations in Sister City pro­grams, such as with the city of Debrecen, Hungary. Both of the laureates have en­hanced the appreciation of the Hun­garian cultural heritage in America. Proceeds from the Carousel Ball benefit the Foundation and its Hun­garian Heritage Center, located in New Brunswick. The Center con­tains a museum, library and ar­chives, all of which are used to document, preserve and showcase the history and contributions of Hungarians in America. The Cen­ter will celebrate its 10th anniver­sary in May 1999 with a special commemorative program. In addition to the Center, the Foundation also supports student and scholar exchanges, trade and business conferences, publicatjaug, academic studies, arts programs, fellowships and scientific rese&ch related to Hungary and America. The William Penn Association has been, and continues to be, a major supporter of the Foundation and its work. The Foundation honored the WPA by presenting its Distin­guished Service Award to the WPA in 1992. Other laureates with ties to the WPA were Board Chairman Michael J. Hrabar (1996), former National President E. E. Vargo (1994), former National Vice Presi­dent-Treasurer Frances A. Furedy (1991), late Board Chairman Jo­seph P. Arvay (1988), and members t Ernest W. Docs (1980), Joseph J. Staudt (1980) and George Dózsa 1 (1988).
