October 1997, William Penn Life, Page 5 Branch News Branch 590 President Mike Tomcsak paid a visit to his sister, Veronica Weingart, in September at her Riverside, Calif., home. Continued from Page 4 Sibrik, is getting better after her back surgery and is planning to return to work at the end of October. Our next branch meeting will be held Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1591 Lockboume Road, Columbus. We will finalize plans for the Christmas party. We hope many members, including young members, will attend this meeting and offer their input on our Christmas party. We also need members willing to help organize and run such functions; the old-timers are getting older. I am already receiving calls about the 1998 golf tournament to be held in Hershey, Pa. Some people are thinking about touring the candy factory, while others are saying the drive is too far from central Ohio. For any life insurance needs, please call me at (614) 231-8024 or write to me at 645 S. Kellner Road, Columbus, OH 43209. Congratulations to Dave George on his 92nd birthday. We wish you many more in good health. Branch 132 South Bend, IN By Frank J. Wukovits, Jr. National Director We were delighted with the turnout for our first branch picnic in a number of years. While the weather wasn’t perfect, it seemed that everyone had a good time. My thanks to the branch officers, as well as Scott Lehmann and Ken Kochanowski, who cheerfully helped make Hungarian sausage using the old branch recipe. There also were chicken and hot dogs, but when the youngsters discovered Hungarian sausage, we didn’t have to prepare any more hot dogs. Our pee wee league baseball team showed up with their parents and presented to the branch an autographed baseball as a memento of their winning the 1997 league championship. A spokesman for the group asked us if we were going to sponsor a pee wee team or move up to the minor with the older kids. A quick officers meeting was called and we decided that Branch 132 will sponsor both teams. We noticed that a significant number of families showed up: Bill and Helen DeMeyer, Helen Pécsi’s family, the Csajkowski family, the Nowaczewski family, the Bralicks and the Keresztes family. Júliáimé Manning used the occasion as an opportunity to have a birthday party for her three-year-old daughter. At the branch meeting we discussed our participation in the Holiday Food Basket program. If you should know of a member who could use some help or someone in a nursing home who would appreciate receiving a fruit basket, call us at the office and leave a message. We want you to know that the branch Christmas party for the kids will be on Saturday, Dec. 13. We’ll have more information about the party in next month’s report. Goydan Branch 226 Coordinator & Secretary Branch 226 member Nathan Pfefferkorn, grandson of John and Cecelia Pfefferkorn, has distinguished himself at McKeesport Serra Catholic High School by reaching the semi-finals in the National Merit Scholarship program. We have begun planning our annual Christmas party, and full teams are participating in bowling. We are looking forward to sending another successful winning team to the next WPA tournament. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA By Margaret Marconi Branch 8121 Secretary Our branch held a regular business meeting on Sept. 3. We signed birthday cards and get well cards. Father Alfred visited us and shared lunch with us. Our area was experiencing very low temperatures, so the discussion on how to save our crops, especially tomatoes, was quite timely. The temperature the morning of our meeting was 39 degrees, very low for Sept. 3. We decided the best thing to do was cover the tomatoes and pray. /* " a All articles & photographs for the November issue of the William Penn Life are due in our office by October 24,1997. ______________/
