Branch 19 New Brunswick, NJ By Barbara Hegedűs Branch 19 President The annual family Christmas party was held Dec. 9 at the Magyar Reformed Church Hall. Entertainment was provided by Otto the Clown, which was enjoyed by all, especially the children. Refreshments and food, prepared by Ruth Vasvary, were served. (Thank you, Ruth.) After which came old, faithful Santa Claus without whom the party could not be complete. Santa distributed candy and gifts to the children, which, as usual, was the highlight of the party. Due to inclement weather, attendance was light. But those who came enjoyed themselves. The election of officers for the new year was held before the party. Elected were: President Barbara Hegedűs, who is completing 25 years as a branch officer; Vice President John M. Hegedűs, son of Barbara and the late National Director Michael Hegedűs; Secretary-Treasurer Ruth Vasvary; and Auditors Albert Suldo and Ernest Arvay. Former Branch 19 officer Irene Evans installed the newly-elected officers. Happy New Year to one and all! Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Andrew W. McNelis National Director On Dec. 2, our branch held its annual children’s Christmas party. Thirty-six young members and 38 adults attended. The young and young-at-heart were entertained by the magic of "Doc” Dougherty. The kids were held spellbound as scarves changed colors, cards disappeared and rabbits appeared from nowhere. During the luncheon all were treated to their favorite Christmas carols by accordionist Paul Roytas. St. Ann’s Church Hall was the site for our branch election and adult Christmas party on Dec. 10. Elected as officers for 1996 were: Andy McNelis, president; Walt Bugielski, vice president; Miriam Hager, secretary; Marguerite McNelis, treasurer; and Lou Kubus and Bill Mayor, auditors. National Director Mike Kara installed the officers. The officers and members of Branch 34 wish everyone a healthy and happy new year. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ By Ernest J. Mozer, Sr. Branch 51 Coordinator On Dec. 3, Branch 51 held its annual election of officers. At the conclusion of the elections, the family Christmas party was held at the American Hungarian Citizens Club in Garfield, N.J. Those elected to serve our branch in 1996 were: Arthur Barillo, president; Frank Zimmerman, vice president; Richard A. Mozer, treasurer; Ernest J. Mozer Sr., secretary; and Joseph Baumgartner and Christine K. Mozer, auditors. President Barillo thanked the members for all their faithful assistance during the past year and for making a rough task a lot easier. Entertainment for the party was supplied by Bob the magician who held the children and their parents spellbound with his unbelievable magic tricks. Many of the children participated in the tricks. The loud shouts of the children filled the room during the entire show. Afterwards Jimmy and Katie Mozer led everyone in singing Christmas carols from the carol books provided by the Home Office. Singing the traditional Christmas songs helped bring out the Christmas spirit in all present. As everyone sang "Jingle Bells,” Santa Claus (Gary Smith) made his grand entrance, ringing his bell all the while. The younger children stared in wonder as he let out a hearty "Ho! Ho! Ho!” All eagerly responded "yes” when Santa asked if they had been good little girls and boys during the past year. Among our guests were two children, both under one year of age, who were meeting Santa for the first time. Thanks to their grandparents who purchased their insurance policies, these children were part of a joyous scene that brought tears of happiness to many eyes. It is these younger members who will see to it that the Association will continue for another hundred years. So, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles contact your branch coordinator about new policies. As each child sat on Santa’s lap, they were asked what they would like for Christmas. Their requests seemed endless. Santa, with the help of President Barillo, gave each child a gift. All children also received coloring books, crayons, pencils and pens. Each adult received a lovely William Penn calendar. After Santa left, all were invited to stay for refreshments and to enjoy themselves with their families, friends and fellow members. A true fraternal afternoon was had by all. We would like to thank the Home Office for all its assistance in making this party a success. We wish all a very happy and healthy new year. Branch 71 Duquesne, PA Branch 89 Homestead, PA By Ruth D. Toth Branch 89 Secretary On Dec. 3, Branch 89 and Branch 71 jointly held a Christmas party at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin, Pa. Once again, we had an outstanding turnout of children and adults. The children were given a bag of goodies as they entered the hall. A warm welcome was extended to all by Elmer Toth, national director and president of Branch 89. He introduced Gus G. Nagy, former national secretary and president of Branch 71. Also in attendance was former National Director William C. Kohut, who generously provided fruit for the children’s bag of goodies. Michael Grandinetti, a wellknown magician, entertained the group with all his magnificent acts. Needless to say, the program was enjoyed by all. After the performance, everyone was invited to partake of the delicious buffet luncheon. As we awaited the arrival of Santa Claus, we sang Christmas carols, and with the singing of "Jingle Bells,” Santa arrived. He mingled with the children and adults and distributed gifts to the children and door prizes to the adults. All in all, a great time was had by all. Our thanks and appreciation go to the following members who helped make the party a success: Gus and Betty Nagy, Elmer and Ruth Toth, Elaine Toth, John S. Toth, Richard Toth and Lisa S. Toth. Our thanks also go to the National Officers and Board of Directors for making these Christmas parties possible. We extend our best wishes for a happy and blessed new year to all the National Officers, Directors, Home Office employees and all William Penn members.
