Fodor National Director April 16 was a big day in the life of the Ohio Valley Hungarian American Cultural Society, whose ranks are full of William Penn members. That day the Cultural Society celebrated its 35th anniversary with a banquet and dance, with 178 people attending. Jim Kalman, the Cultural Society’s treasurer and emcee for the banquet, opened the proceedings at 6:30 p.m. He read the names of the charter members and the society’s schedule of events for this year. William Penn National Director Louis A. Fodor gave the invocation (and later, the benediction) in Hungarian and English. Mr. Kalman then introduced Judge Irene Smart, member of the Eastern Ohio Appellate Court, who spoke on her recent trip to Hungary. The next speaker was her daughter, Judge Jennifer Sargus, district judge of St. Clairsville, Ohio, who spoke on growing up in a Hungarian home. Judge Sargus’ husband, U.S. District Atty. Edmund Sargus, related his experiences at naturalization proceedings in Cincinnati. Afterwards, the Tokay Orchestra struck up a csárdás, and guests filled the dance floor until midnight. Among the guests were visitors from Pittsburgh and Columbus. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH By Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 President The last Branch 14 meeting before summer recess was held May 11.
