The live dove in his program responded to the magician on command and kept the children’s attention throughout the performance. Mrs. Santa Claus arrived looking for her husband but could not find him until the magician, through his magic powers, made him suddenly appear out of nowhere. After Santa gave each child a gift and bag of presents, an elaborate buffet dinner and refreshments were served. Branch President Michael Benedict introduced his fellow branch officers: Bette Hoffman, vice president; Violet Lenart, Treasurer; Alexander J. Goydan, secretary and coordinator; and Helen Domencic and Joseph Szarka, auditors. Also introduced were special guests Frances A. Furedy, national vice presidenttreasurer, and Louis Seibert, president emeritus of Branch 226. The guests departed happy and all remarked that they could hardly wait until next year’s party. Our branch presented food baskets for the needy to The Intersection, a non-denominational charity that helps feed the homeless and needy in McKeesport. Branch 226 has adopted this organization as its fraternal project. On Thanksgiving Day, The Intersection fed 75 families and gave each additional food donations. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Steve Horvath Branch 249 President Branch 249 held its annual election of officers and the following will serve our branch in 1994: Steve Horvath, president; Ann Kertesz, first vice president; Mike Mayerchak, second vice president; Anne Marie Schmidt, secretary-treasurer; and Steve LaFlame and Mark Schmidt, auditors. On Dec. 11 we had our annual Christmas party. More than 100 people turned out for the fun. The menu included sloppy joes, Hungarian sausage, paprika potatoes and delicious Hungarian pastries and Christmas cookies. Entertainment was provided by ventriloquist and magician Dan Craine and his wife C.C. the Clown. All the children enjoyed the program. Our special guest, Santa Claus, made an appearance to the delight of the children. The winners of the Christmas drawing were Liz Sepela ($25), Jesse DeBoard ($50), Low Schweiterman ($75) and Bea Miller ($100). Christmas cards and best wishes for the holidays concluded our party. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Ron Balia Branch 296 President Branch 296 held its annual Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 11. The party was a success, as always. The magician occupied the children, and Santa passed out the treats. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Home Office for the contribution that helped make the party a successful event. The date for the regular branch meetings will be changed starting in January 1994. Our meetings will now be held on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 7:30 p.m. Please plan to attend. Your attendance and input are needed and appreciated. Have a happy and healthy new year. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman Branch 590 Treasurer On Sunday, Dec. 12, Branch 590 held its annual Christmas party at the Egret Hall in Cape Coral. The hall was decorated with a tree, crib set poinsettia centerpiece and other festive holiday decorations. Prior to the party, a short business meeting was held during which we elected officers for 1994. Those elected were: Michael Tomcsak, president; Rose Darob, secretary; and Joan Mauerman, treasurer. John Veres, who was appointed temporary chairman for the election, swore in the newly elected officers. Progressive bingo was played and enjoyed by all the members. Door prize winners were Elizabeth Posey, who won the Herend plate donated by the Home Office, and Mary Meckler, who won a large plastic snowman filled with cookies. Other winners were Anna Strobi and Art Schinske. Christmas songs were then sung by all members in their best singing voices. The dinner menu included barbeque chicken, kolbász and sauerkraut, rokott potatoes, green beans with mushrooms, a relish dish and rye bread. Our cooks were Mike Tomcsak and Joan Mauerman. Baked items were made by Rose Darob, Irene Redden, Vi Timmer and Betty Bartus. Our branch donated three baskets of food to needy families. Joey Dues, grandson of Joan Mauerman, helped decorate the hall, serve the food and pass out the prizes. Good job, Joey. This summer Joey will travel to Ireland and England as an exchange student. Belated birthday greetings go to Michael Darob, Joan Mauerman and Michael Tomcsak. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fares of Clearwater, Fla., who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Get well prayers go out to Olga Wansa, Zita Kara and National Director Louis Fodor. Our next branch meeting will be held Jan. 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Egret Hall. Continued from Page 1 has organized a home Bible study for seventh and eighth graders and has coached several CYO girls’ volleyball teams. In 1987 he initiated the parish’s Sunday Mass video ministry for shut-ins and continues to serve in this program. Mr. Gilbride devoted hundreds of hours as the first leader of the "US” group of seventh and eighth graders, a program teaching parish youth to serve others. He assists the group with a variety of projects, including volunteering at the Hunger Center in Akron. He has been employed in the Tech Center at the Goodyear Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President The branch’s annual Christmas party was enjoyed a great deal by thephildren and adults alike. We had a nice lighted Christmas tree, Christmas music and, as always, plenty of good food and desserts. The Rev. Raymond Crosser led us in prayer before the meal, and the Rev. Kenneth Greiner led the after meal prayer. Many door prizes were given away, and the children each received a nice bag of assorted Christmas candy. We thank the Home Office for the many items sent to us for distribution to the children and adults. Thank you, again, for helping to make this a successful event. In early December, the ladies auxiliary held its Christmas party. This well attended annual event featured a delicious dinner followed by a nice social evening. Nomination, election and installation of branch officers for 1994 we a held during our December neeting. Joseph Masic chaired >e election and installed the offie s. Those responsible for guiding our branch in the coming year are: Vincent Frank, president; Leroy Douglas, vice president; George Dorman, secretary; Robert Jones, treasurer; and Edwin Smith, Robert Aiken and Joseph Palumbo, auditors. A belated birthday wish goes out to Myron J. Yeager. Myron, we hope you have many more birthdays' to celebrate. Our branch’s annual memorial Mass for deceased members was held Thanksgiving morning with Father Crosser, our spiritual director, as celebrant. The sanctuary had a beautiful harvest setting for this special Mass. Cans of food were placed on tables in the sanctuary and later given to the poor. We thank all those who participated. Tire &. In accepting the award, Mr. Gilbride said he doesn’t give as much as he gets from his many community activities. "The kids of Tallmadge are the greatest kids in the world,” he said. "Tallmadge is a great community—I’m glad to be a part of it.” Mayor Paul Warzinski presented Mr. Gilbride with a key to the city and a proclamation declaring Oct. 27, 1993, as Dave Gilbride Day in Tallmadge.
