Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter Happy 1993! May we all have a happy and healthy New Year. The branch’s annual Christmas party was held on Dec. 12 with a great turnout of members, especially children. Santa (Steve Novak) and Mrs. Claus (Ruth Fabian) visited and passed out gifts following a short program by Johnny K, a local magician. All had a nice time, and the food was delicious. A big thank you goes to all who helped to make this a successful and funfilled event. Special thanks go to the Home Office for allowing us to have such special social events. Officers elected at our December meeting to lead the branch for 1993 were Steve Sándor, president; Steve Novak, vice president; Irene Nemeth, secretarytreasurer; and Kay Novak and John Kaluzcky, auditors. Gabe Nameth installed the officers. Plans for 1993 were discussed, including the scheduling of a memorial Mass for deceased Branch 28 members to be held at St. Stephen of Hungary Church. Darago Branch 44 President Eighty-five members and their families "Ho-Ho-Ho’d” through our annual family holiday party held Dec. 12. Thirty-two junior members helped the Magical Theatre Company puppets start their show and complete their action adventures. Who will be able to forget the children getting on their feet and shouting to the puppet characters "he went thata-way”? Fourteen adult members each won a four-inch potted red, white or pink poinsettia. Lucky member Nancy Chula won the gorgeous, almost two-feet wide pinkstriped raffle poinsettia. Everyone present enjoyed the fraternalism and food after the children received their presents from Branch Vice President Joe Nasvadi. Members generously donated a can of food per person as admission to the holiday party. These donations, along with the donation from the Home Office, enabled us to prepare and deliver three holiday baskets. (More details about the baskets will appear in our February report.) At the final business meeting of 1992, members reelected the branch officers to another term. They are: Elizabeth Darago, president; Joe Nasvadi, vice president; Marilyn Darago, treasurer; C. Darago, secretary; and M. Eberhardt and A. Darago, auditors. All members are welcome to call in or write us with ideas and suggestions and to continue participating in every aspect of Branch 44. Call (216) 673-3347, or write to William Penn Branch 44, c/o Marilyn Darago, 1640 Franklin Ave., Suite 8, Kent, OH 44240. In mid-December Teresa Weaver, Branch 44’s oldest member, passed away. At the conclusion of the election, our family Christmas party was held at the American- Hungarian Citizens Club in Garfield, N.J. Those elected to serve our branch were Arthur Barillo, president; Frank Zimmerman, vice president; Richard A. Mozer, treasurer; Ernest J. Mozer Sr., secretary; and Joseph Baumgartner and Andrew Nemeth, auditors. Branch Coordinator Ernest J. Mozer Sr. welcomed the guests at the party and introduced the reelected officers. A great round of applause was given them by the large crowd assembled. President Barillo thanked the members for their faithful assistance during the past year and for making a tough task a lot easier. Entertainment was supplied by Piccolo the Clown who held the children spellbound with her magic tricks. Some of the children even had the chance to participate in the act. The children’s shouts of joy filled the room during the entire show. Afterwards all joined in singing Christmas songs from the carol books provided by the Home Office. We also had the pleasure of being entertained by young branch members Katie Mozer on the keyboard and Michael Mozer on the saxophone who played several Christmas songs each. If any of our branch children have any type of talent, please let us know so you can share it with us at our next Christmas party. With the singing of "Jingle Bells” Santa Claus (Al Smethy) made his grand entrance. The younger children stared in wonder as he let out a hearty "Ho! Ho! Ho!” All eagerly responded yes when Santa asked if they had behaved all year. As each child sat on Santa’s lap they were asked what they would like to have Santa bring them on Christmas day. Their requests seemed endless. Santa, with the help of President Barillo, gave each child a gift. All children also received a coloring book and crayons, while each adult received a lovely William Penn calendar. After Santa left, all were invited to stay for refreshments and- to continue enjoying themselves with their family, friends and fellow members. We would like to thank the Home Office for all its assistance in making this affair the success it is every year. Branch 71 Duquesne, PA Branch 89 Homestead, PA By Ruth D. Toth Branch 89 Secretary On Dec. 6 Branch 71 Duquesne and Branch 89 Homestead held a combined Christmas party at the Homeville Fire Hall in West Mifflin. The turnout was excellent, and there were many children that were attending for the first time. National Director and Branch 89 President Elmer W. Toth greeted the guests and introduced retired National Secretary Gus G. Nagy, a member of Branch 71. Also in attendance were former National Director William C. Kohut and attorney James Farley with his wife and daughter. Magician Johinie performed and called on members of the audience to assist him with various tricks. Needless to say, he was never without eager volunteers from the audience. The children were especially captivated by his performance, and before he left he made balloon characters for all the children. After the magic show the sound of bells was heard in the distance, heralding the arrival of Santa Claus. What a welcome he received! Santa distributed gifts to all the children. A buffet luncheon was served and enjoyed by all. We must say the party was again a success. We Continued on Page 6
