Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By Caroline Kovach Branch 159 Reporter Dec. 13 was the date for our annual Christmas party held in the social rooms of Parkside U- nited Church of Christ. It was such a happy and friendly gathering of many friends, many of whom we don’t get to see from one holiday season to the next. This year’s party was extra special because of the very talented lady who entertained everyone. Carole Sexton, who has been blind since she was eight years old, entertained us with special musical numbers on the piano and sang classic country songs while accompanying herself on the guitar. She was assisted by her mother. Unable to see, Carole nevertheless completed her college education, majoring in music. Carole also passed out toy musical instruments to the children who readily accompanied us as we sang Christmas carols. Oh, for a new set of eardrums! The children and some parents were being entertained upstairs while many of the parents and grandparents remained downstairs drinking coffee and socializing. Santa Claus, portrayed by Eugene Liesau, arrived with greetings from the North Pole and gifts and Christmas candy for each child. A gift was also given to each mother attending. Refreshments were enjoyed after the activities. Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to help with all of the work. Of course, with such a large group of people, there is always plenty to be done. The William Penn Association makes it all possible. Remember, we are one of the finest fraternal insurance societies in the country. Don’t forget to support the scholarship fund. Call Bill Kovach at (215) 933- 8391 anytime for any of your insurance needs. We wish you all a very happy and healthy 1993. Our children’s Christmas party was held Dec. 20 and featured a magician and the Rosemary Papovich Dancers. A big thank you goes to all who helped to make this a successful and fun-filled event. We also would like to thank Steve Baylor for the part he held in the party. We closed out the year with our annual New Year’s Eve party. Jimmy Cox and the Cool Beans provided music for dancing, and there was plenty of good food and fun for all. We at Branch 189 would like to wish our best to those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries this month. We also extend our sincere condolences to those who have recently lost loved ones. We wish speedy recoveries to Gerry Taylor and Frank By croft Sr. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA By Alexander J. Goydan Branch 226 Coordinator Jacelyn Gorzo, winner of the women’s all events title at last year’s WPA national bowling tournament, rolled a perfect 300 game Aug. 23 in the New Great Valley Doubles Tournament. Jacelyn, 26, accomplished the feat during the first game of an eventual 742 series. Among the prizes awarded her for her perfect game were a diamond ring and a $100 savings bond. A life benefit member of Branch 226, Jacelyn was also a member of the branch’s champion women’s team at last year’s WPA tournament. She has been participating in league bowling for 12 years, including seven years in a local junior league and the last five years in adult leagues. She rolls a 16- pound AMMO AMF ball with fingertip grip and averages 165. All of us at Branch 226 are proud of her, and we hope she can duplicate her feat at this year’s WPA tournament in May. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Steve Horvath Branch 249 President Branch 249 held its Christmas party Dec. 12. It was a great success as more than 150 people enjoyed the festivities. The children especially enjoyed the puppet show presented by Taffy &. Company and the visit from Santa. Later in the afternoon, all enjoyed a buffet dinner featuring sausage, sloppy joes, paprika potatoes and a variety of Hungarian cookies. The winners of the Christmas raffle were Joe Kiss ($100), Carol Schwiezer ($75), Leo Zauakos ($50) and John Merker ($25).
