Charles Branch 352 Reporter Branch 352 held its family Christmas party and annual meeting on Dec. 5. Guests were welcomed by our branch officers. Branch President George S. Charles Jr. extended holiday greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors and National Officers. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch that included chili, stuffed cabbage, kolbassi and sauerkraut, hoagies, hot dogs, salads and a large assortment of pastries and cookies. After lunch we were entertained by "The Amazing Doc” magic show and a sing-along. Santa made a special appearance at our party and passed out bags filled with toys and candy to all the children. A special thank you goes to all branch members who helped to prepare the delicious foods and baked goods and to all who donated their time and love in making our party such a great success. We also thank the Board of Directors, National Officers and Home Office employees for their time and kind party allotment. Also, a big thank you goes to all who brought canned goods and nonperishable items to the party. Our holiday boxes were beautiful and very much appreciated by those families receiving them. Once again, our branch members have shown their love for others and their support for a good cause. Following our party we held our annual election of branch officers. Unanimously reelected for 1993 were: George S. Charles Jr., president; James Deak, vice president; Frances A. Furedy, secretary; Elmer A. Furedy, treasurer; and Albert Furedy and Juliann Kwasneski, auditors. Congratulations to all. Our thanks to Jim Deak for coordinating the recent branch raffle. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman Branch 590 Reporter Branch 590 held its annual election of officers during its December meeting. Reelected were Irene Redden, president; Rose Darab, vice president and secretary; and Betty Bartus, treasurer. National Director Michael F. Tomcsak installed the officers. On Dec. 13, our branch held its Christmas party at Egret Hall in Cape Coral. Joan Mauerman and Michael Tomcsak catered the affair. The menu consisted of stuffed cabbage, kolbassi and sauerkraut, paprika potatoes, rye bread and condiments. Mary Werlyn baked delicious apple pies, and Betty Bartus and Vi Timmer baked scrumptious pastries. Believe me: no one left hungry. Weight Watchers has offered us a special group rate. Bingo was played and many gifts handed out. Christmas carols were sung in both Hungarian and English. The centerpiece was a small tree and two dolls dressed in traditional Hungarian costumes. Betty Fejes of Winter Haven, Fla., made the costumes for the dolls. Betty is a true artist and wonderful person. Branch members Michael and Jillian Rose Darab, grandchildren of Rose Darab, were among the many door prize winners. A fine time was had by all. Get well wishes go to Father Fekety who had an accident in Orlando and attended our party wearing a leg brace. Our best wishes also go out to John Veres who is recuperating from a recent heart attack. John’s wife Mary is a former secretary of Branch 590. John used to play the violin at many occasions. Our condolences go to the family of Rose Radvany, who passed away recently. She was the mother of Frank J. Radvany, secretary of the Board emeritus. Congratulations to Branch 590 member Scott A. Morris, who recently finished third at the Ohio State Bodybuilding finals. This was Scott’s first appearance in this competition. He competed against 124 other entrants. Scott, 22, is the son of Katherine Morris of Cape Coral. We also congratulate our own Michael F. Tomcsak who recently earned the designation of fraternal insurance counsellor. We hope to go to the Naples Dinner Theatre later this year. Any details will be announced as soon as possible. We hope everyone had a happy holiday season. We are looking forward to seeing all of our outof-town friends at the national golf and bowling tournaments. For your insurance needs, please call Michael Tomcsak at (813)858-8071. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President It is with much sadness that we report that longtime member Eugene G. Frank died on Dec. 15, 1992, after an extended illness. He was 66. Our sympathy goes out to his family. May his soul rest in peace. Happy birthday wishes go out to Joseph P. Seidel who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He has been a member for 71 years. A Mass was celebrated in his honor at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Altoona, followed by a reception in the parish hall attended by family and friends. Walter G. Quirin also celebrated his 90th birthday. He has been a member for 53 years. Congratulations to you, Walter. He is a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Lakemont. John Conti attended the branch’s January meeting. He is planning on attending our meetings regularly. You are most welcome, John. We are happy to have you. Get well cards were signed and sent to Leo Long and Leo Yeager. It is our prayerful wish that both of you will be on the road to recovery. We were reminded at our branch meeting that we should continue to pray the rosary everyday to the Mother of God for peace in the world. We wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14. If any of our members have something that they want to share with other branch members, please let us hear from you. Call me at 695-0213 and your information will get in the next branch report. Arbanas Branch 8020 President The holidays are over and Branch 8020 had a busy and hectic—but enjoyable—holiday season. As we do each year, we brought the warmth and happiness of the yule season to a total of 161 people. Our first stop was at the Robinson Developmental Center where we held a Christmas party for the 121 retarded residents there. The residents were treated to goodies, music and a visit from Santa. We also made a financial donation to the Center. Our Christmas spirit then carried us to the Hope House, a home for 25 elderly men and women in McKees Rocks. There, Santa again passed out bags of goodies, and all enjoyed music and the singing of Christmas carols. The last stop was at another home for senior citizens in McKees Rocks where, once again, Santa gave each resident a bag full of goodies. Over the holidays we also remembered the needy in our area by donating three boxes filled with turkeys and other foods.
