May 1992, William Penn Life, Page 5 Branch News Some of the winners in the recently concluded Branch 249 howling league season celebrate at the bowling awards dinner. More winners in the Branch 249 bowling league receive their awards at a recent dinner in Dayton, Ohio. Continued from Page 4 to ask about me and pray for me when I am sick. They make me feel welcome.” The award medal was presented by Assistant Cubmaster Tim Boyle. Also in attendance were Nathan’s sister Sara, Cobra Patrol Leader Carmen Kwolek, Cobra Patrol members John Kwolek and Scott Green, and Pack 4 members Brett Kwolek and Timothy Boyle. Nathan also received formal congratulations from the Rev. Gordon J. Svoboda II, secretary for education in human identity and youth, young adult programs of the United Church Board for Homeland Ministries of the U- nited Church of Christ. Rev. Svoboda wrote to Nathan, "I hope and pray that this emblem will be a constant reminder of God’s continuing love for you and your place in Christ’s church. Our church is made stronger by your presence with us as we work together for the coming of God’s kingdom.” Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Anne Marie Schmidt Branch 249 Secretary Members and bowlers of Branch 249 had a wonderful time at the bowling banquet held April 4 at St. Stephen’s Church Hall. Our congratulations again to all the winners. We enjoyed the excellent dinner prepared by the ladies of the branch, which consisted of fried chicken, paprika potatoes, cabbage rolls and those wonderful Hungarian pastries. We were deeply saddened by the recent death of Julia Asztalos, a member of Branch 249 for many years. Mrs. Asztalos always enjoyed the children who attended our annual Christmas party and was very generous to them. She will be missed by all. Our sincere sympathy goes out to her sister Dorothy Russell and other family members and friends. We would like to extend to all the mothers of our branch a very blessed and happy Mother’s Day. May all your sacrifices and good deeds be appreciated by your loved ones. Once again, for your insurance needs please contact our new branch agent William R. Sipe at (513) 439 1242. We look forward to seeing everyone at the national bowling tournament to be held in Dayton May 22 to 24. We promise to help you have a fun-filled weekend. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Ron Balia Branch 296 President We hope your Easter was a blessed one shared with family and friends. Branch 296 held an Easter egg hunt April 11 that was enjoyed by more than 60 members. We thank all the members and guests who helped prepare this new branch event and made it work wonderfully. During our most recent branch meeting our members made plans for our annual summer bacon roast. We are considering a suggestion to combine a bake sale and picnic with the bacon roast. Members are encouraged to attend our next branch meeting on May 20 to help finalize our branch’s summer plans. We hope you attend! Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President Branch 800 held its monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of April. One of our trustees, Edwin Smith of Tyrone, has been on the sick list. Ed, we hope you will soon be able to return to the monthly meetings. We had a nice meeting with a lunch afterwards. James Stoner was the winner of the 50-50 raffle. We remind all our members that the May meeting will be the last branch meeting until September. The Rev. Anthony Little, chaplain at the Blair County prison, sent a nice letter to the branch, which was read at the meeting by Branch Secretary George Dorman. Rev. Little thanked Branch 800 for its continued support of the prison ministry. Our donation went toward the purchase of much needed literature and religious articles. Margaret Nori, a longtime member of the ladies auxiliary, has been hospitalized for quite a few weeks following complete knee surgery. Margaret, we sure hope this surgery will help you to walk much better. We are sad to report that longtime member James A. Porta, 92, died on April 6, 1992, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewistown, N.Y. He was a past president of the former Catholic Knights of St. George Branch 231 St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Altoona. May his soul rest in peace. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. It is the wish of the branch officers that all of you wonderful mothers have an enjoyable day. You certainly deserve it. We wish all of you a pleasant Memorial Day on May 25. This is a good day to remember our deceased members and loved ones. Branch 8149 Pittsburgh, PA By Marie Boyle Donahue Branch 8149 Reporter Our members met May 11 for our branch’s regular meeting.
