(Photo by Frank Tima Sr.) Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Secretary It sure was nice to see all those smiling faces from this year’s bowling tournament in the July William Penn Life. Our official photographer sure does a great job. Congratulations to all bowlers who won money. Our special congratulations go to all the Branch 18 members. We all did very well again. (Yea!) Deanna Danko Barringer was the honoree at a baby shower on June 20. The shower was given by grandma Julia Danko and aunt Darlene Szatmári. As this was being written, word came that Deanna had just given birth to a son. His name is Jacob William Barringer. Congratulations to mama and daddy and (would you believe) great-grandparents Steve and Julia Danko. Branch 18 is planning a oneday trip to Atlantic City on Aug. 27 Contact the club if you would like to go with us. Cost is $99.90 per person. The branch card party will be held Sept. 24. Please get your tickets early because this affair is always a sellout. Lovely William Penn lapel pins are on sale at the club. They are only $1 each. Every member should be proud to wear one. Our annual branch golf outing was held on June 24. Thank you to all who helped to make it a success. Our club was closed from July 2 to July 17 while the kitchen was being remodeled. We were getting pretty outdated in there, and the rest of the club is so lovely. This remodeling cost about $10,000. Come in and see your money at work. Club manager Steve Szatmári, wife Darlene and daughter Jennifer are in Hungary at this writing. They are attending Mr. Szatmari’s niece’s wedding. This is a welldeserved rest for Manager Szatmári, who has not been feeling very well. We hope they are having a nice time. They are missed. Please let me know about your vacations. I would love to put your adventures in print. Stay healthy and enjoy the rest of the summer. Think about getting your bowling teams in order; league play is just around the corner. Ladies’ Auxiliary News By Eleanor Kender, President Our get well wishes go out to our members Margaret Meyers and Ludwig Gebner, husband of Mary. Both are home from the hospital. A speedy recovery to both. Our deepest sympathy goes to Vice President Barbara House on the death of her uncle Alex Rakay, who was also the brotherin-law of Irene Korpák. Our prayers go to their families. A small luncheon was held at the William Penn Social Club on June 13 honoring our Auditor Anna Leny on her 70th birthday. The affair was arranged by her daughter and son-in-law, Violet and Bill Misangyi, who were here from Germany. Also attending were close family and friends. Congratulations, Anna, and many more birthdays. A belated thank you to Treasurer Margaret New on ordering and delivering the beautiful plants given as table prizes at our April card party. We wish everyone a great summer. The next auxiliary meeting will be on Sept. 17. We invite all William Penn members to join us at 7:00 p.m. that day. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Secretary-Treasurer The Cantemus Choir and Piccoli Archi Orchestra have come and gone, but they still deserve one more mention. They were great. The attendance for the Youngstown performance was well over 600. A great big hand goes to Betty Szabó who worked so hard to make it a success. We also thank all those who helped, including Kathy Novak, Joe Vince, Steve Novak, Joe Taylor, the International Institute, the City of Youngstown, all the hosts and hostesses who housed and fed the young performers, and all the ladies that donated the delicious pastries. I did not realize that Branch 28 has such a good following. I received so many calls when we had no news in the last few issues. I apologize and will try to do better in the future. Thank you to all my friends and relatives for all the cards and gifts. I could wallpaper a room with the cards. Congratulations to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, to Barbara Kalucsky on her new job, to Alan Szabó for being last year’s most improved agent, and to Gus Nagy on his induction into the OCS Hall of Fame. Our annual bacon fry will be held Aug. 10 at the residence of Branch President Steve Sándor. Bring your lawn chair, appetite, and either a casserole or pastries, and have some fun. For more information call 755-9105. For your insurance needs call Branch Coordinator Gabe Nameth at (216) 792-8145 or Alan Szabó at (216) 792-7851. Branch 44 Akron, OH By Elizabeth K. Darago Branch 44 President Our July 14 picnic was a success! Thirty-six Branch 44 members enjoyed the fellowship and good food at the picnic. The weather was overcast and rainy, which made the hot goulash and kolbász taste wonderful. Our special guests Zsolt and Agnes Fodor and family, in Akron from Budapest, agreed the goulash smelled and tasted "like the real thing.” Our thanks to all members who attended, brought all the tasty side dishes and donated cans of food for the needy.
