There was golf, horseshoes, volleyball, fishing and games for the children. Meat and beverages were furnished by the dub and casseroles were brought by the members. The 7th Annual National Golf Tournament held July 7 at the Steeplechase Country Club in Groveport, Ohio, drew 30 members from Branch 189. Among those from our branch at the tournament was Clint Atkins who scored a hole-in-one on the 8th hole. His ace won him a free weekend in Texas and entry into the $ 100,000 Tournament of Aces to be held near Houston. Another of our golfers, Jerome Hamby, won a sweater for hitting the longest drive. Great job, guys. There will be a dinner and dance on Aug. 11 at the club. Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with dancing to follow. Come and join us for a night of fun and fellowship in our air-conditioned banquet room. Branch 296 Springdale, PA First and foremost, we congratulate all the winners at the national bowling tournament, especially those from Branch 296. In June we held our first bacon roast of the season. In spite of the bad weather we had a lovely turnout. The weather did not dampen our spirits at all. Nothing stops Branch 296. We are making our final plans for our picnic which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the picnic grounds of Assumption Church, Route 66, Leechburg, Pa. The menu will include cabbage rolls, cabbage noodles (with homemade noodles), hot dogs, kolbász and sauerkraut and Hungarian goulash. Baked goods will also be sold. We are hoping for a nice day and hope to have a nice turnout. We could also use some more help. Anyone willing to help the day of the picnic, please call Pauline Becsi at 337-0767. All help will be greatly appreciated. The public is invited. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA By Dianne A. Lippert Branch 705 Coordinator The newly formed 1990 Branch 705 trap team has completed the first half of the 18-week summer league held at the Mayville Gun Club. The team consists of Mike Wald of Jackson, Wise., his brother Steve of Iron Ridge, Jack Lippert and Scott Batterman of Mayville, Marc Trott of Horicon and Mark Lentz of Juneau. At the end of the first half, the William Penn team was tied for first place in their division, but lost the chance for the first half championship in a shoot-off. On June 24 the team traveled to Waukesha, Wise., to take part in the Wisconsin five-man competition. This event featured more than 200 of the best teams in the state, all shooting at 500 clay targets. The shoot began at 9:30 a.m. and lasted all day, being shot over a field of 28 traps. The William Penn team had a final score of 403, which did not figure in the list of winners. Nevertheless, our fraternal spirit ran high. The shooters and their families had an enjoyable day. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Branch 800 President Our branch summer outing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park in Altoona.
