Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Ron Balia Branch 296 President Branch 296 Springdale held its first meeting of the new year on Jan. 17. We had a very nice attendance, and we hope that we will continue to do so throughout the year. We started our new year by making some plans for the com ing months. First of all, we are planning to host a fund raising dance, tentatively scheduled for April 21. Max Tomayko will serve as chairman for this event. W ith a little hard work and cooperation from all our members, we can make this a success. It was suggested that we make plans to have a summer picnic. We will need a lot of help to plan this event, too. More plans will be announced soon. We are happy to announce that Mr. Elmer Charles is well on the road to recovery, as is Martha Schuller, wife of Branch Vice President Ralph Schuller. Martha was hospitalized and is getting along very well. Branch Coordinator George Charles is well again and is back with us. Get well wishes from all of us. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Irene E. Sabo Branch 590 Reporter Our Feb. 4 meeting was opened by Branch President Irene Redden who greeted the officers, members and one guest, Steve Bartus. Only 16 members were present that afternoon. We urge and encourage Branch 590 members to attend our meetings. This is the only way you will truly know and understand what "fraternal organization” means. We are planning to hold a picnic and a bake sale in the near future, but without adequate interest and help from you, the members of Branch 590, those plans are in doubt. A handful of active members can not accomplish good, meaningful results. We would like to dream big and help increase the scholarship fund to help our young members — our future adult members — reach their goals. Our meetings are held at the Egret social hall, 209 S.E. 15th Place, Cape Coral. After all our meetings, we serve refreshments, homemade pastries, coffee, tea and soda. Dates of our future meetings and events are: • April 7: Bake sale in Cape Coral. Proceeds to benefit William Penn scholarship fund. • April 8: General meeting at 2:00 p.m., at the Egret social hall. • April 29: Picnic 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bring your own food. Soda and beer will be provided. • Sept. 9: General meeting at 2:00 p.m., at the Egret social hall. • Nov. 4: General meeting at 2:00 p.m., at the Egret social hall. Our branch donated $25 to the scholarship fund in memory of Elizabeth Noel, wife of our branch coordinator Anthony Noel, who passed away shortly before Christmas. May God grant her eternal rest. If you have any questions about meeting dates, the picnic or bake sale, contact President Irene Redden, P.O. Box 461, Cape Coral, FL 33904, or call her at (813) 452-2079. For servicing your insurance needs, contact Anthony G. Noel, 209 S.E. 15th Place, Apt. 110, Cape Coral, FL 33990, or call him at (813)574-8806. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Leroy E. Douglas Branch 800 Vice President At a recent meeting, the members of Branch 800 elected officers for 1990. The branch officers are: Vincent Frank Jr., president; Leroy E. Douglas, vice president; George A. Dorman, secretary; Robert Jones, treasurer; Joseph E. Masic, Joseph J. Palumbo and Leo K. Long, trustees; James Stoner, Marshall; and Msgr. Michael Servinsky, spiritual advisor. Mr. Douglas had served as branch president for a number of years but chose not to seek reelection. He said he is 81 years of age and would sooner have a younger man take over. In January, we met for a dinner at the Waffle King restaurant. This meeting drew 70 people. Our branch also recently made its annual contributions to the ministries which serve two area correctional facilities. We gave $800 to Father David Becker, pastor of St. Dismas Parish located at the Huntingdon Reformatory, and $300 to Father Anthony J. Legarski, chaplain at the Blair County prison. Branch 805 7 Verona, PA By Mary Dialoiso Branch 8057 President Branch 8057 ended the year 1989 with a Christmas party for children and adults which everyone enjoyed. Many thanks to party co-chairwomen Olga Carbarno and Sara Conti, and thanks to Teddy La Rosa who was an excellent Santa Claus. We started 1990 with a Valentine’s Social, chaired by Margaret Bruno. We are also planning several trips for the summer. On May 16 we are planning a Bingo Lunch Cruise and Shopping Trip to Wheeling, W.Va. We will also travel to Our Lady of Snow and Catskills at Tamrach in June. For more information about these activities, call Mary Dialoiso at 828-4234. We extend birthday greetings to all our members born in the months of February and March. We also wish a speedy recovery to all the shut-ins. We ask our members to pray for Gert Pope who was in St. Margaret’s Hospital at the time this was written. She fell and broke her leg and hand. She also needed several stitches on her face. Please send her a card to cheer her up. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA By Elizabeth Kakas Branch 8286 Vice President The members of Branch 8286 are busy preparing for another year full of branch activities. Our first major program of the year will be a ceremony commemorating March 15, 1848. The program will include the reciting of Hungarian poetry and the dancing of the csárdás by the children. There will also be a performance of Hungarian songs and a guest speaker. Our May procession will feature our children in Hungarian costumes. This celebration will also include a Hungarian mass. In August we will gather for a picnic in honor of St. Stephen’s Day. The program will include a mass and the children dressed in costume for a procession before and after the mass. This fall we will again commemorate the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 with a program on Oct. 23. This program will be similar to the program held in March and will include a mass and buffet dinner. We will close out the year with our annual Christmas show in December. The children dress as shepherds, angels and wise men to reenact the Nativity scene and recite appropriate poetry. The people of the parish sing Hungarian carols and join the children in welcoming Santa Claus.
