Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara Ann House Branch 18 Reporter John and Helen Molnár were again the proud parents and hosts at a party June 17 honoring their lovely daughter Angela, a graduate of Southgate Aquinas High School. The party began with cocktails and appetizers, followed by a superb dinner prepared by Club manager Steve Szatmári and his crew. A beautiful cake made by Helen Molnár was our scrumptious dessert. We then danced all those calories away. Angela presented her mom and dad with a plaque thanking them for being super parents. Not a dry eye was seen in the club. Thank heaven for little girls. She sure is a special one. Branch 18 sponsored its annual golf tournament June 25. Mother Nature gave us a beautiful and warm day. The winner of the women’s division was Barb Sopo, followed in order by Phylis Stevens, Janet Totsky and Gerry Vig. The men’s division was won by Ted King, followed in order by Ron Sopo, Kirk Starin and Bob Varos. Closest to the pin awards went to Ray Mei, Ron Sopo and Kirk Starin. After golfing, many of the golfers enjoyed a dinner at the William Penn Club. The evening featured the presentation of the golf awards and the drawing of a special 50-50 raffle, won by Barbara House. A special thank you goes to Frank Tima Sr. and Frank Tima Jr. who very graciously sponsored three foursomes at the tournament. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Reporter We had a great turnout and good weather for our annual summer picnic held June 30 at the home of Branch President Steve Sándor. Our members and guests enjoyed csárdás szalonna imported from Hungary, kolbász and all the trimmings that go with a bacon fry. A big thank you to Kathy Novak for the beautiful watermelon fruit basket and to Mary Torok for her homemade "fank” and kalacs. We also thank all the other wonderful people who contributed to make our picnic a success. At one point during the picnic, we sang a birthday song to Anne Novak who was celebrating her birthday that same day. We also were pleased to have as our guests from Germany Irene Devlin and her daughter Michelle. They are the daughter and granddaughter of our Branch Secretary-Treasurer Irene Nemeth. We had another special guest at our Hungarian senior citizens meeting in June. Visiting us from Alaska was Ray Tomory and his fiancee. Ray is the son of Julius and Irene Tomory. Ray and his fiancee exchanged vows recently, and we wish them a long and happy marriage. Congratulations to John and Jay Matasy and Jim and Irene Cholensky who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries. May they enjoy many more years in health and happiness. Our women’s bowling team finished in the money at this Frank Torok, Dom Youngrass, Steve Sándor and Imre Magyar enjoy a recent bacon fry hosted by Branch 28.
