Branch 1 Bridgeport, CT By William J. Bero National Director I The members of Branch 1 wish to extend special thanks to Mr. Jeff Ward, regional sales manager, for his in-depth explanation of William Penn products at a recent seminar held in the Bridgeport I branch office. j As a result of the enthusiastic I response to the presentation and ; products that the William Penn : offers, we are in the process of licensing three new part-time agents for the greater Bridgeport area. We would also like to inform all the members of Branch 1 that a new time slot has been approved for the monthly meetings. Meet­­j ings will now be held at 7:30 p.m. I on the first Tuesday of each month at the branch office, 856 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport. Branch 14 Cleveland, Oil Part-time sales representatives from the Cleveland area gathered March 12 for a special seminar on new William Penn insurance products. The participants exhibited much enthusiasm as they discus­sed the new Provider Plan and 20 Pay Life with Vanishing Premium Plan. Participating in the seminar were National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri, Regional Sales Manager Jeff Ward, Ron Perkins, Emma Oros, Dawn Ward, Joe Jeromos, Robert Perkins, and Dale Cole. All agreed it was a good pro­gram and that the new products should sell well. Branch 18 Detroit, MI By Barbara A. House Branch 18 Reporter Club Manager Steve Szatmári and his wife Darlene surprised their daughter Jennifer with a "Sweet 16” birthday party on March 4. Eighty guests attended. The club was decorated beauti­fully. As usual, Steve and Darlene and their crew served an excellent meal. All the help worked hard to enable Darlene and Steve to act like guests. Jennifer was so pleased, she beamed all evening. The Hungarian walls of the dub were rocked by the music of a local disc jockey. A wonderful time was had by all. The club kitchen has been re­modeled. We now are able to meet the needs of all our weight­watching and healthy-eating members. We have added a new broiler which will allow us to expand our menu. Come and put Manager Steve to the test. We also are taking reservations for showers and banquets. Please Branch 18 member Darlene Szat­mári was the 'surprised’ guest of honor at her recent 'Sweet 16’ party. contact Steve at the club if you are interested in holding your event there. The Branch 18 Ladies Auxil­iary is planning a card party for May 8. Contact Darlene for tickets. Darlene also has Hungarian cookbooks. They make great gifts. Frank and Agnes Tima are touring the U.S. this winter. They have seen numerous Tiger games and have been to Las Vegas and San Francisco. Hurry home, folks. You are missed. Many members are busy get­ting their teams ready for the national bowling tournament. The best part of the tournament is seeing people you have not seen since last year. If you would like to bowl, please contact Branch President Andy Toth. He will be happy to help you get placed on a team. We hope to see many Branch 18 members at the tournament. See you in May. Branch 22 Roebling, NJ By Barbara Emri Branch 22 Coordinator Several area William Penn part­­time sales agents met March 4 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in New Brunswick for a seminar on new William Penn products. The agents reviewed the new 20 Pay Life with Vanishing Pre­mium Plan and the Provider Plan. They also discussed ways to in­crease membership and fraternal­­ism in the Association. Led by National Vice President Zoltán B. Emri and Agency Mana­ger Stephen Gulla, the seminar participants reviewed marketing tips and important information on licensing requirements. Those attending the seminar were Dale A. Cole, Barbara A. Emri, Ruth Vasvary, Frederica Szatmári, Kalman Magyar, John Provasnik, William J. Kovach, and Louis R. Nagy. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Reporter Mr. and Mrs. Julius Tomory cele­brated their 50th wedding anni­versary on Feb. 18. They have three sons and seven grandchild­ren. A reception was hosted by their son and daughter-in-law who live in town. Their other two sons live in Alaska. The children surprised their parents with a pair of round trip tickets to either Alaska or Hawaii. Of course, we all know which trip they will take. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Check also celebrated their 36th anni­versary recently. Mr. Check hosts the "Souvenirs of Hungary” pro­gram on radio station WKTL- 90.7 FM. The Checks also recent­ly became the proud grandparents of a baby girl. We congratulate both couples and wish them many, many more. Father George fell and broke his hip. We all wish him a speedy recovery. A few members of Branch 28 recently visited the Grand Gener­ation Exhibit at the Butler Insti­tute of American Art. All the pictures in the exhibit were made by senior citizens. One mural which caught our eye was "Growing Up in New York City” by Robert Burghardt. He is the cousin of Branch 28 member Catherine Paulitz. The mural was also displayed at the Smithsonian in Washington. Another of our members went on a two-month trip "down under” to Australia. Emery Mag­yar went there to visit his sister who he has not seen in 36 years. We hope it was a wonderful reunion. Our branch meetings are held the third Sunday of each month at the residence of Branch Presi­dent Steve Sándor', 133Struthers- Coitsville Road. Call 755-9105 for directions. Branch 44 Akron, OH The Branch 44 family Christmas party was enjoyed by all who attended. We had door prizes, including Hungarian noodles, "Hi, I’m Hungarian” shirts and gift baskets. Each child received a gift from under the Christmas tree. A luncheon tray with a full complement of meats, potato salad and condiments was served, and members brought Hungarian delicacies for dessert. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship and merriment. We again sponsored a Pysanky egg decorating class. Members were led step-by-step through the procedure using simple de­signs, enabling them to try more intricate patterns at home. Decorating kits with all the necessary materials were available to participants, and Branch 44 supplied the eggs and refresh­ments. A nice Easter basket was given away as a door prize. Many participants brought food donations which were to be given to needy families in the area. Branch 44 also recently held its election of officers for 1989. Our branch officers are: Elizabeth Darago, president; John Bradach, vice president; and Marilyn Dara­go, treasurer. Irene Beres has volunteered to serve as corresponding secretary. Anyone with news of births, anni­versaries, graduations, illnesses or deaths can call Irene at 753- 7535. We will report your in­formation in the branch news­letter. We wish to thank everyone for their generous contribution to help fund our branch activities for 1989. We are still receiving donations and will report on our 1989 budget in the next news­letter. Branch 76 Philadelphia, PA By Steve Szemes Branch 76 Coordinator At this time we would like to give thanks and recognition to those caring people who, time and again, respond to help worthy causes. It may be charitable institu­tions, heart or cancer funds, or those in need. Whatever the cause, these people are willing to help. We would like to commend some of our branch members who recently made generous con­tributions to the cause of their choice: Julie Benjamin, Patrick Drain, Clara S. Fenessey, John F. Giunta, Kathryn Gruber, Doris McGoldrick, Stephen Pokoray and Stephen M. Skrzat. Our most sincere sympathies go to the family of a well-known and longtime mémber, Julius Glöckner, who passed away re­cently after an extended illness. Branch 132 South Bend, IN The members of Branch 132 have been busy attending and planning a series of events presented at the William Penn Club. On April 1, members gathered at the Club for our Annual Famous Chicken and Pork Din­ner-Dance. The delicious buffet style meal included Hungarian style chicken, homemade sausage, all the trimmings, pastry and coffee. After dinner, many guests danced to the music of the Sea­sons Orchestra. Our Club Bowlers Banquet will be held Saturday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. The evening will fea­ture a complete dinner with Continued on Page 7
