First graders from St. Joseph’s School in Verona, Pa., enjoy a special Christmas party held for them by Branch 8057. This past holiday season, Branch 8114 President Robert Walter delivered baskets of food to four needy families in the Clarion, Pa. area on behalf of the members of Branch 8114. Continued from Page 4------little and tell us what you think. The last time we went by bus was about 1968 when it was in New York City. We really had a great time. Of course, a lot of those members are deceased now, but we still remember the songs and laughter. Coming up soon is the annual March 15 Hungarian Independence Day Celebration. We assume that the American-Hungarian Federation of Clubs and Churches will sponsor the event this year as they have done in the past. We will look forward to seeing you there. The Presbyterian Women of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church of Youngstown invite you to come and listen to a wellknown speaker, Pat Vivo, on Sunday, April 24 at Calvin Center, at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $4.00 and are available from any Presbyterian Women member, as well as through the church office (747-8760). A Chinese auction, refreshments and door prizes are included in the price of the ticket. Also on April 24, the American Hungarian Reformed Church on Mahoning Avenue is having an art show. A painting donated by Mrs. Margaret Tohati will be raffled off. Tickets are available from Mrs. Tatar. One of St. Stephen of Hungary parishioners, Eric C. Peyko, is stationed with the Peace Corps in Kenya, Africa, teaching mathematics in a secondary school in the village of Luarda, located near the city of Kisumvu in the vicinity of Lake Victoria. Eric is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Peyko, Scoville Road, and we are certainly proud of his choosing to contribute something of himself to make this world a little better. Thank you. Get well and a speedy recovery to Leslie Wash and to Steve Sándor. Hope to see you, and all of our ill members, back in circulation soon. Our sympathy is extended to the family of Anthony Turk who died of a heart attack Feb. 4. He called us a few times to offer a few kind words — he was that kind of guy. May he rest in peace. Please contact Gabe Nemeth, Branch 28 coordinator, 792-8145 for insurance. Buy a policy and you automatically become a William Penn Branch 28 member. It’s as simple as that, plus the fact that you are covered, and this is good. Igazan? Igazan! Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By William J. Kovach Branch 159 Coordinator On my most recent visit to the Mount Carmel, Kulpmont and Shamokin area, 1 had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Joseph Scopelliti of 12 S. Vine Street in Shamokin. Mr. Scopelitti was the former secretary-treasurer of Branch 183 and 213 of the former Catholic Knights of St. George. He turned over to me, two antique letter stamps that were used by both branches before the merger. These two letter stamps were forwarded to the Home Office in Pittsburgh and are in our archives for future generations of William Penn members to see. We thank you most sincerely, Mr. Scopeletti, for preserving these historic momentos. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Albert G. Robinson Branch 800 Reporter Branch 800 lost one of our oldest members, Albert Weidman of Altoona, Pa., who passed away on Jan. 28, 1988. He was 86. Mr. Weidman belonged to the organization for 68 years and was a very active member. He served as a past supreme vice president for 18 years. He will be sadly mised by the members of Branch 800. Branch 800 gave our annual donation to the St. Dismas Parish located in the state prison at Huntingdon, Pa., and also gave a donation to the Blair County Prison chaplain at Hollidaysburg, Pa. These donations help to buy rosary beads, prayer books, song books and other religious items that the state does not furnish. Father David Becker, pastor of St. Dismas Parish, and Father Anthony Legarski, chaplain of the Blair County Prison, were present to receive the checks for their prisons. The meeting took place at Garvey Manor, office of the Bishop of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese, located on Logan Boulevard, Hollidaysburg, Pa. Branch 800, at our regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 2, made plans for a communion breakfast and discussed some of our future activities for 1988. What made it so special was the presence of Miss De Reggie’s first-grade class from St. Joseph’s School in Verona. The children were very surpised and enjoyed the William Penn coloring books, crayons and candy they received. The children who could not attend were sent their gifts. Branch 8057 also recently donated three food certificates to needy families and gifts to a needy child this past holiday season. Our Christmas party was a very happy one with everyone going home cheerful.
