February 1988, William Penn Life, Page 9 Branch News Officers of Branch 226 McKeesport, Pa., for 1988 are (from left) Edward Rietski, vice president; Violet Lenart, treasurer; Alexander Goydan, secretary and branch coordinator; Frank Dominic, auditor; Bette Hoffman, auditor; National Secretary E. E. Var go; and John Sabo, president. Seated next to Santa Claus is Louis Sieben, honorary lifetime president of the branch. It seems that this young member of Branch 336 Harrisburg, Pa., can’t wait to open the present she received at the branch’s Christmas party. Children at the Branch 249 Dayton, Ohio, family Christmas party enjoy a puppet show prior to Santa’s arrival. Gathered around Santa are the newly elected officers of Branch 296 Springdale, Pa., for 1988. Goydan has also been appointed as branch coordinator by the Home Office. Our past president, Louis L. Siebert, who has served so faithfully for 40 years, has been named "Honorary Lifetime President of the Branch,” and will continue to be active in our branch activities. The annual family Christmas party was held on Sunday, Dec. 20, in the social hall of St. Stephen’s Church. The large number of children and adults attending was overwhelming; the best turnout we have ever had. Christmas carols were sung, led by our own Helen Stipkovits and a group of children from those present. Truly, Helen does an outstanding job in getting full participation from all present. The Sadecky Puppets presented the show, "The Christmas Present”, which was enjoyed by all. It was truly a professional performance. Our Santa Claus — John Tusai — then appeared to present gifts of money, candy, and toys, and to listen to additional requests. John plays his role admirably. He enjoys his part as much as the children enjoy seeing him. Following Santa’s visit, a delicious luncheon was served and all enjoyed true fellowship and friendship, which is really what Christmas is all about. The committee—Louis Siebert, John Sabo, Edward Rietski, Alex Goydan, Bette Hoffman, Violet Lenart, ably assisted by members Annamae Rietski, Helen and Frank Domencic, Irene Grebur, Betty Király, and Margaret Linderman — all are to be complimented on a job well done. Also, we were most pleased to have with us National Secretary E. E. Vargo and his wife Betty to enjoy the festivities. The officers and members of Branch 226 take this opportunity to extend to all William Penn members good health, wealth, and much happiness in the new year. Branch 249 Dayton, OH By Albert G. Kertesz Branch 249 Vice President The annual meeting of our branch was held on Saturday afternoon Dec. 19, 1987. President John Motko thanked the officers and members present for their untiring efforts and cooperation during the past year. Now we must look forward to the coming year to maintain and increase our fraternal endeavors. With this thought in mind, conversation ensued on the possibility of sponsoring a "Fish Fry” in the near future. The date and additional information will be announced in this publication and on our Hungarian radio program. The following were elected as branch officers to carry on for the ensuing year: John Motko, president; Steve Horvath and Albert G. Kertesz, vice presidents; Anne Marie Schmidt, secretarytreasurer; and Frank Hoffer and Michael Mayerchak, auditors. Our day was topped off with the annual family Christmas party. Attendance is increasing yearly as our juvenile membership is increasing. As usual, a fine meal was prepared by a few kind ladies of the branch. Branch Coordinator Albert G. Kertesz welcomed all those in attendance and introduced President John Motko for a few words in the Hungarian language. After the meal, pastries and refreshments, the men in the audience were invited to come forward to lead in the singing of carols. Those who did volunteer performed admirably, to the accompaniment of Albert G. Kertesz Jr., on the organ. We were again entertained by Kurt McGlocklin and his puppets. Kurt is a master of his art; his talent is really appreciated by young and old alike. Santa Claus (Frank Hoffer) finally made his appearance with a bag full of goodies for the juvenile members and prospective members. Special thanks are in order to those who assisted in making this annual Christmas party another great success. There are too many to mention, however, Steve Horvath deserves a special word of appreciation for all his extra efforts on the party and his involvement with the branch bowling league. It is also appropriate to convey our thanks to the Home Office for the financial support toward expenses. Also for the grant that it provided to make possible the two-hour Hungarian Christmas Eve musical program on WORP. In looking back over last year’s accomplishments, I noted that our juvenile membership has increased by 14 new members. Six of these were grandchildren enrolled by Joseph and Margaret Zapatony, and three by Phyllis and the late George Vida. Two also by yours truly. The special two-for-one juvenile term plan has been available on a continuing basis. This is an excellent plan to obtain for your children or grandchildren. Please feel free to contact me for additional information or service. May God bless you and yours with an abundance of health, happiness and prosperity in this New Year.__________________ Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Michael J. Pellegrino Branch 296 Publicity Coordinator William Penn Branch 296 held its annual election of branch officers on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1987. The meeting was brought to order by Branch Vice President John Simon. Mr. Simon then relinquished the chair to Elmer Charles, president emeritus of the Association. Mr. Simon declined the nomination for vice president, citing other pressing personal affairs. The other officers elected were: Ralph Schuller, vice president; James Mozga, treasurer; Pauline Becsi, secretary; Mary Wesoleski, Sue Szalai, and Jennie Wislie, auditors; and Michael J. Pellegrino, publicity coordinator. The oath of office was administered by Mr. Charles. After the meeting the branch members packed treats for the children’s Christmas party. E. Vargo and his wife Betty, National Vice President Zoltán Emri and Mr. Charles. The magician pleased the guests to no end, the gifts were distributed to all the children, and the sing-a-long was a huge success. Immediately after the party, everyone went to the Pine Room for sandwiches and refreshments. We wish to thank everyone for making our party a success. Branch 336 Harrisburg, PA By Zita Prowse Branch 336 Publicity Chairman Our annual children’s Christmas party was held on Dec. 13,1987, and was attended by 125 children. The children were entertained by three clowns, a magician and a visit from Santa who distributed gifts to all the boys and girls. The children’s stockings were filled with goodies, including an orange, clear toys, candy cane, bubble gum, hard candy, peanuts and a box of cracker jacks. Refreshments served to all included cookies, ice cream and cokes. The children had a very happy and enjoyable time. The annual Christmas party for the membership was held on Dec. 20 with a buffet of roast beef, ham, cheese, potato salad, hot sausage and sauerkraut, relish trays, chips and pretzels. The New Year’s Eve party was very well attended with much merry-making — music by Polka Whoos’, hats and noisemakers — and a buffet served all evening. After the New Year was welcomed in, we all enjoyed pork and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA By Dianne A. Charles Branch 352 Reporter Branch 352 held its family Christmas party and annual meeting on Dec. 19. 1987. Members were greeted by National Director and Branch Coordinator Elmer A. Furedy and National Treasurer and Branch Secretary Frances A. Furedy. Branch President George S. Charles Jr. extended Christmas greetings to everyone. Our appreciation to National President Stephen G. Danko for attending our Christmas party together with his son Derek. The children (both young and old) were entertained with movies, Magician "The Amazing Doc”, a children’s toy raffle and, of course, Santa. Each child had the opportunity to talk with Santa and have his or her picture taken on Santa’s lap. Santa delighted each child with candy, coloring books and gifts. Chili dogs, cheese and crackers and a large assortment of cookies and cakes were enjoyed by the children and adults alike. Our Continued on Page 10
