La vince, William Jones, Rose Genetta, Elizabeth Haggerty, Ste­phen Medve, Angeline Samu, ..J Branch 14 recently honored its young members who received William Penn Scholarships. Those honored were (from left) Lynn Sedensky, David Horvath and Charlene Evans. William Cook, Jesse Dobay, Olga Gwinnup, Joseph Waleko, Julius Cico, Valentine Kosta, Anthony Turk, Maria Doka. We are saddened by their deaths and pray for their eternal rest. The annual memorial service for all deceased members of Branch 28 will be held in the near future. On a happier note, we congrat­ulate our new National Director Michael Tomcsak. We are happy for you, Mike, and hope that your new position will be fulfil­ling and rewarding. We know that you will do an outstanding job as you did in the past as Branch 28 president for many years. It couldn’t happen to a better person. September’s and October’s cal­endars were full from start to finish with the Heritage Day held by the American Hungarian Club on Donald Avenue, the dinners at the American Hungarian Re­formed Church, the Kodály En­semble at Calvin Center, card and board games at Our Lady of Hungary and St. Stephen of Hun­gary churches, the senior citizens’ monthly get-togethers, and the various dances sandwiched in be­tween. It was a regular smorgas­bord of happenings in which to participate. We don’t plan to slow down, either. Following the party, the regular membership meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. Election of branch officers for 1989 will take place, after which a branch party for adult members will be held. It is hard to believe that next month December will be here. But, we have finalized plans for our annual election of officers and family Christmas party. Both events will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, at the American- Hungarian Citizens Club, 21 New Schley St., Garfield. The election of officers for 1989 will be held at 2:00 p.m. and the Christmas party will begin at 3:00 p.m. The party will feature enter­tainment, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. We ask all children to bring their parents, grandparents and cousins to the Christmas party. Like we said, it’s a family Christmas party. Branch 59 Windber, PA By Dorothy Gall Branch 59 Coordinator Mary Miller, who has served as branch coordinator at both Branch 52 and Branch 59 for 20 years, recently announced her retirement. At the Branch 59 meeting held Sept. 11 at the Scalp Level VFW, it was announced that Dorothy Gall was appointed by the Home Office to succeed Mrs. Miller as branch coordinator. The members voted to present Mrs. Miller, who is recovering from a recent operation, with a special gift thanking her for her many years of dedicated service to tne branch. He will have with him the world’s smallest petting zoo: one cage, one rabbit. But, this will not be an ordinary rabbit. It will be the most famous rabbit of all, Trademark "the educated rab­bit.” Trademark is just one of the many rabbits included in Alback­­er’s career. He has raised rabbits by the "zillions” and the antics of his rabbits have been chronicled around the world. The Master Rabbit Hider Albacker has many rabbit stories to share with child­ren after spending more than 50 years entertaining with rabbits. And, again, it is time for us to resume our branch and other activities for the coming year. A well-known, longtime mem­ber of our branch and commun­ity, Katherine Kanya, was honor­ed recently on the occasion of her 80th birthday at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. Katherine received many gifts and accolades for her many years of devotion to and support of the Club, especially for the delicious pastries and tortes she contributes for all occasions.
