The 8:00 p.m. show will be the final performance of the Kodály Ensemble’s first-ever tour of North America. The tour, which opened in October, has played to large and enthusiastic audiences in the eastern and mid-western United States and Canada. The tour has been hailed as one of the most important cultural events of the season in that it presents to American audiences their first look at one of Hungary’s most accomplished dance troupes. "We at the William Penn are proud to be a sponsor of this historic performance,” said National President Stephen G. Danko. "The ensemble’s skill in blending folk traditions with artistic expression raises Hungarian folk dancing to a new level.” Under choreographers Zoltán Zsurafszki and Zoltán Farkas, the Kodály Ensemble presents the sparkle, color, variety and power of Magyar dance traditions in a three-part program. The first part, entitled "Living Traditions,” reveals the richness of regional dance dialects, the world of authentic village music, and the beauty of folk costumes. It also uncovers a world of improvisational dance that is unique to the Carpathian Basin» The men are virtuoso dancers and the women complement their partners.
