Bn 129 party draws 180 By Al Bartfay Branch 129 Reporter COLUMBUS, OH — The 1986 William Penn Christmas party was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Columbus. It happened on Dec. 13, 1986 — a sunny day with temperatures in the 40s and no snow to be seen anywhere. More than 180 of the Columbus William Penn csalod (family), including 51 children anxious to meet Santa, joined at the spacious 495 VFW Hall on the near westside. The hall was merrily decorated in red, white and green, providing a festive holiday ambiance. Rose Varga’s cuisine committee, including Piri Sibrik, Rose Pinter, Marge Boso and a complete cast of culinary experts, provided a memorable "forgetthe-diet” Karácsony Ebed (Christmas dinner). Our second annual talent show proved that Branch 129 has plenty of talented members of all ages just waiting to be discovered by Hollywood or Hungary. Door prize winners were Gil Baldwin, Carrie Szekely, Mike Deri and Rose Iacovetta. The prize for the youngest person in attendance went to 8-month-old Nicholas Peterfy. The year 1986 was a special centennial year for our Association. Many Columbus members were pleased to travel to Pittsburgh, Dayton, Ligonier and Wellsburg to participate in oncein-100-years celebrations. And it was fun to welcome back to Columbus branch life so many testverek (brothers and sisters) who helped us set historic highs in attendance at our Centennial picnic and Christmas party. Our next regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. See you then. Joseph Bodnar of the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church led the singing of the Christmas carols with the accompaniment of accordionist Helen Nemeth. Santa then arrived and he presented the children with gifts and candy. Santa was assisted by Barbara Hegedűs, Louis Keller, Irene Evans and Anthony Vass. A buffet was then enjoyed by all.
