June 1987, William Penn Life, Page 3 ’Camp Hungária’ set for premier season at Mount St. George WELLSBURG, WV — William Penn’s summer program at Mount St. George in Wellsburg, W.Va., offers a variety of programming and economic housing for everyone. Do yourself a special favor and come for a day, spend a night, or stay for a weekend or a week. Come and participate in our summer program. Camp Hungária ’87 welcomes you. Just imagine yourself spending the weekend on a lovely historic estate nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia. The early morning sun beckons you to take a walk and enjoy the fresh air. Have a continental breakfast in the Kave Haz (coffee shop) and before you learn techniques, methods, designs and history of Hungarian folkart. There will be time for swimming, hiking, meditation, and if you want, chatting in Hungarian with our resident folkartist. Marianna Halassy, a recent refugee from Hungary and skilled folkartist, and Fraternal Director Elizabeth Szabó have planned an exciting and creative folkart program for those interested in learning more about Hungarian folkart techniques and motifs. The choice is yours. What will you decide to make? Will you begin to work on a Hungarian embroidery piece? Will you spin yarn and weave yourself a purse Hungarian-style? Or, would you prefer to work with clay and leather as so many of our ancient forefathers did? Special craft sections will be set up on a permanent basis. If you come for a day you may participate in the craft activity of your choice. Day projects are designed so that you can "make it and take it.” Weekend workshops are designed to give you a more indepth knowledge of Hungarian folkart patterns. The fee for day workshops varies from $5.00 to $15.00. In some cases the materials are included in the fee, but not always. Weekend workshops will include room, board and craft project. The fee is $50.00 if you bring your own linens. Camp Hungária has a variety of places for you and your family to stay. There are nine tents in our campground area. Each tent is equipped with two bunk beds. There is running water near by. Hot showers can be taken at the lodge. The tents are erected on platforms. Tents cost $10.00 per night for two people; $15.00 for four. The Retreat House is a two level facility with two-to-a-room accommodations. There are a few singles. There are hot showers and limited cooking facilities as well as a chapel for your early morning meditation. Prices range from $10.00 to $12.00 a night depending on your length of stay and the number in your group. The Lodge, in addition to the fireplace and large recreational facility and kitchen, has been prepared to accommodate those interested in special workshop activities. There are three rooms, each with four to six to a room. Facilities include bunkbeds and hot showers. Cottage A, or Balaton, contains two sleeping rooms with bunkbeds.
