March 1987, William Penn Life, Page 9 Bronch News ___ Pittsburgh District releases schedule for PITTSBURGH — The members of the Pittsburgh District recently announced their schedule of act­ivities for 1987. In announcing its schedule, the district has chal­lenged other areas to match or better its plan of events. The district members feel they are the most active in the Asso­ciation. They have maintained a similar schedule for the past 15 years and meet at least 12 times a year. Branch News In Brief Branch 8326 SMITHTON, PA — The mem­bers of Branch 8326, Smithton, Pa., will serve coffee and donuts after the first Mass each Sunday during March at St. Timothy’s Church. On March 29, the branch will sponsor a bake sale and grocery raffle. Branch 8326 is also spon­soring a coloring contest for grades K to 6 of St. Timothy’s CCD classes. The branch will have a break­fast May 31 at a local restaurant. Branch 8114 CLARION, PA — Branch 8114 finalized the dates for its annual breakfasts during its recent Feb­ruary meeting. The men’s breakfast will be held March 22, and the ladies’ breakfast will be held May 3. Lloyd and Joseph Pontzer will be chairmen for the breakfasts. The branch also named Ann Osterried as chairmen of the sick committee. Branch 8164 STEUBENVILLE, OH — Mem­bers of Branch 8164 will attend a dinner on May 17 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Father Heinz of St. Anthony’s Church. At its February meeting, the branch members listened to a talk on insurance delivered by National Auditor Louis Fodor. Mr. Fodor also told the group about the Association’s upcoming bowling and golf tournaments. Branch 8321 W1NDBER, PA — Branch 8321 will honor its 50-year members at a special breakfast this month. The breakfast will be held jointly by the branch and the Holy Name Society of St. Anthony’s Church in Windber. The members also decided to assist in any necessary restoration work on the bell at St. Anthony’s cemetery. The schedule is as follows: February: Officers apprecia­tion dinner at Lasek’s Lounge, honoring past officers and our National President Gay B. Banes. March: Meeting at St. Boniface Church, Branch 8019. Slides will be shown by Mr. and Mrs. Mac Cosbe of their recent trip aroung the world. Kuhn Pittsburgh District Secretary/Treasurer PITTSBURGH — On Saturday, Jan. 31, the members of the Pitts­burgh District celebrated their 30th anniversary at Lasek’s Lounge, honoring the district’s officers for their contributions during the previous year. Schmidt Branch 8019 Secretary PITTSBURGH — Branch 8019 held a wine and cheese party following our December monthly meeting. In attendance were Nat­ional President Gay B. Banes and National Secretary E. E. Vargo. The presence of our members and the National Officers, along with a round of songs, made for an enjoyable evening. Our January meeting was high­lighted by the installation of branch officers for 1987. The officers are Joseph Schmidt, pres­ident; Henry Reinersmann, vice president; and Lillian Schmidt, secretary-treasurer. Executive Vice President John F. Kenawell conducted the install­ation of the officers. Outgoing Vice President Tom Kielan and Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Katie were presented with plaques and a check by Branch President Schmidt. October: "Night at the Races” By Bill Arbanas Branch 8020 President McKEES ROCK, PA — In con­nection with the distribution of the Association’s Easter Egg Col­oring Books, Branch 8020 is sponsoring a coloring contest for children at the St. Frances de Sales Church CCD classes. The branch will give each child one of the special William Penn coloring books. Members of the Home Office staff will then select the prettiest coloring books from each class. There will be two winners from each class, each receiving a $5 bill from Branch 8020. Branch 8020 is one of several at St. Peter’s, Branch 8014. After a short meeting, food, fun and games for members and friends. November: Annual memorial service for deceased members of our society. Mass at local church. Meeting and refreshments to follow. December: Annual Christmas party for one of the many local needy homes for the elderly in the Pittsburgh area. William Penn branches sponsor­ing such contests among children in their areas. In other news, McKees Rocks Mayor Dennis Skosnik proclaim­ed March as Mental Retardation Month. Mayor Skosnik made the announcement at the March 1 meeting of the branch. Branch Presiden Bill Arbanas recently convinced the McKees Rocks Police Department to don­ate $500 to the Robinson Devel­opmental Center for Retarded Adults. The branch is also making plans for its annual cook-out at Mount St. George in Wellsburg, W.Va., for the residents at the Center. Would You Like To Earn Extra Money?
