Page 10, William Penn Life, October 1987 Branch News Children attending Branch 800 Altoona’s annual com boil and wiener roast enjoyed many fun surprises, including this penny scramble. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Irene E. Sabo Branch 590 Reporter William Penn Branch 590 met Sept. 20 at the Egret Community Building in Cape Coral. A delicious supper followed the meeting, thanks to our hosts, branch coordinator Anthony G. Noel and vice president Michael Tomcsak. In the absence of our president, the Rev. Árpád György, vice president Tomcsak opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Hungarian Himnusz. Our delegates to the General Convention, Mr. Noel and Mr. Tomcsak, gave us a report on the Convention. We congratulate Mr. Tomcsak who was elected a first alternate director. We sadly report that President Arpad Gyorgy’s beloved wife, Palma from Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away on Aug. 29,1987. Lippert Branch 705 Secretary Another 20-week summer league was recently concluded at the Mayville Gun Club for the Branch 705 trapshooting team. This same team — consisting of Mike and Steve Wald, Wayne and Darlene Wagner and Jack Lippert — have now been together for eight seasons. The team this year finished as champions of their division, but lost the four division shootoff by only one-and-a-half targets, coming in second. A trophy will be awarded to each of the shooters for their efforts. Overall averages have improved steadily throughout the years creating a very solid team with great prospects for the future. High gun this year went to Wayne Wagner with a 23.10 x 25 average. Right behind him was Jack Lippert with a 22.70 x 25 and Mike Wald at 22.44 x 25. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Harold Robinson Branch 800 Reporter Branch 800 held its annual corn boil and wiener roast on Aug. 19 at Highland Park in Altoona, Pa. This is our biggest fraternal event of the year. We had a very nice day for the affair and had 102 adults and 30 children in attendance. We thought we had enough corn and wieners, but we ran out of wieners and late comers who arrived after 6:30 p.m. got only corn, which there was plenty of. The children were treated to balloons, crackerjack and a penny scramble. Anthony Nori got the magic red penny that won him a dollar. Everyone had a great time and met friends they had not seen for a long time. The committee must be thanked for the good job they did in planning and getting together all the many things it takes to make a party this big of a success. The committee was Joseph Masic, Leroy Douglas, Dave Greiner, Joseph Polumbo, Vincent Franks, Bill Adams, John Conte, Bill Laughlin, Myron Yeager, James Stoner, Leo Long and Harold Robinson. Branch 8036 Greensburg, PA The members of Branch 8036 gathered Aug. 17 at the home of Branch President Glenn Johnson for a pool party and picnic. A special guest at the affair was Yoshio Takeda, an exchange student from Japan. Branch 8050 Pittsburgh, PA By Edward L. Haberman Branch 8050 President The members of Branch 8050 met Sept. 15 at All Saints Center for their regular meeting. The members discussed attendance at meetings during the year, which has averaged nine to 10 members per meeting. The branch agreed to try to find ways of drawing more members during the coming year. The branch’s bus trip to the William Penn’s facility in Wellsburg, W.Va. on Aug. 16 drew 32 participants. Our branch hopes to draw even more next year. During our visit at the William Penn Home for the Elderly, my wife, Rose Mary, entertained the residents with a sing-a-long, playing her guitar to the enjoyment of all present. Our group later went up the hill to the lodge and pool for our annual picnic.
