By Mary Lou Sporner Branches 8121 and 8126 Officers were elected by Branches 8121 and 8126 dur­ing the annual meetings of the branches held at St. Mary’s Grade School in St. Mary’s, Pa. A joint meeting was held in early January as the con­tinuation of a tradition in welcoming in the new year. Following the meeting, members of the two branches travelled through three inches of fresh snow to the Buc­caneer Restaurant for lunch. The snow added to the festive Christmas spirit. And the table for the lunch was decorated with miniature holly plants amidst a beauti­fully decorated Christmas tree. By Dolores Orlandi By Stephen J. Emery Branch 8326 SMITHTON, PA — A cer­tificate of appreciation was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mehalik during the an­nual Christmas party of Branch 8326 held at the Holi­day Inn in Belle Vernon. The certificate was in ap­preciation for their spiritual and fraternal service to their church and to the Branch. Fr. James Miller, spiritual advisor of Southwest Penn­sylvania District, made the presentation. Dolores Orlandi, president of the branch, presented Mrs. Mehalik with a Blessed Mother floral ar­rangement. Special recognition was also given to Mrs. Helen Kundrat for her service to the branch. Guests included Fr. Ed­ward J. Kretz, pastor of St. Timothy Church and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kuhn. Mr. Kuhn was formerly supreme vice­­president of the Catholic Knights of St. George, now integrated with the William Penn Association. HONOREES — Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mehalik hold Certificate of Ap­preciation presented to them dur­ing the annual Christmas party of Branch 8326, of Smithton, Pa. By Florence Kirk Branch 8149 Branch 8149, of St. Anselm’s Parish in Swissvale, Pa. held its annual Christmas party in the parish hall. A covered dish dinner preceded the presentation of beautifully wrapped gifts presented to residents of Mt. St. George. The gift project was chaired by Regina Bittner and Hazel Fletcher. They personally visited the residents to present the gifts. Robert E. Bradley was chairman of the Christmas party. The branch president is Paul McCaffery. Branch 26 Branch 26 held its annual Christmas party for children in early December. A magical show was pre­sented, much to the delight of the many children in at­tendance. Treats were also presented to each of the youngsters to conclude the day’s events. By Steve Petruska Branch 8 Vera Petruska has as­sumed the office of president for the ninth consecutive term at Johnstown (PA) Branch 8, of the William Penn Association. She and other officers were elected during the annual meeting held in December 8 at the Hungarian Reformed Church. Others returned to office include Elizabeth Buckshaw, vice-president; Elaine Petruska, recording secretary; Steve Petruska Jr., treasurer; and Ida Sipos and Elizabeth Maurer, auditors. Meetings of the Johnstown Branch are held the second Sunday monthly at 2 p.m. and branch members are en­couraged to attend and take part in the activities. Following the installation of new officers, the branch held its annual children’s Christmas party. Santa greeted each of the children around a huge yule tree decorated by children of the Sunday School. He presented gifts, carol books, and cal­endars. Refreshments were then served. The officers express their gratitude to the Home Office staff for its invaluable assistance in the party ar­rangements. PARTY IN JOHNSTON — Some of the members and children of the Johnstown Branch 8 are shown during festivities at the annual Christmas party. CHILDREN’S PARTY — The fifth annual Children’s Christmas party of Phoenixville Branch 159 was held in the Parkside United Church of Christ Social Room where Branch Manager William J. Kovach extended a welcome in behalf of National President John Sabo. Santa Claus (John Serdy Sr.) was the hit of the party, entertaining the children and present­ing each of them with a gift. Each of the mothers in attendance was also presented with a gift. Refreshments, prepared and served by Caroline Kovach, were enjoyed by everyone. By Marie Duruttya Branch 189 ALLIANCE, OHIO - Of­ficers of Branch 189 were elected for 1985 during the December business meeting. Elected by unanimous vote were Mike Duruttya, presi­dent; Karl Trumpeter, vice­­president; John A. Barany, secretary; Zoltán Cibulas, treasurer; and Zack Taylor and Richard Fetters, auditors. The annual Christmas dinner was held at the Athletic Club and attendance was excellent. President Larry Haidet welcomed the various members and guests and the invocation was given by Joe Falcon. Prizes were presented to the guests. Once again the branch was privileged to have Santa (Gary Heestand) make an ap­pearance, much to the delight of the children. The joy and excitement not only swept over the children but caught the attention of “children” of all ages as well. Under the direction of manager Penny Duruttya and her helpers, Andrea Duruttya and Dawn Bradt, the children played games and won prizes. Refreshments were served to the children by the board of directors and Gerry Taylor and Cheryl Fetters. Special thanks go to the Popovich dancers for the talented program they presented for the children. Special thanks are extended, also, to Harry Fogel who an­nually takes pictures of the children with Santa. And a special thanks to the Home Office for its contribution in behalf of the party. Our managers of five and a half years, Pug and Penny Duruttya and their daughter, Andrea, have departed for new endeavors and we wish them well. A special farewell was held in their honor as a tribute to their management of the Alliance William Penn Club. Theirs has been the longest management the club has had. The developed innovative programs for our branch, in­cluding things like jam sessions, Halloween parties, surprise birthday and anniver­sary parties and above all, the delicious dinners and breakfasts served by Penny and her helpers who never forgot Christmas festivities. A farewell party was given in their honor by the manage­ment. Party arrangements were made by Mable Leech and her committee. The branch also offers a special thank you to Andrew Duruttya who was a tremendous help to her parents in many ways. We extend best wishes to Pug for success in his music career and to Penny in all her endeavors. SANTA ARRIVES — Children of all ages expressed excitement over the arrival of Santa for the annual Branch 189 party. A portion of the many youngsters in attendance surrounds the famed visitor. 17
