Ladies Auxiliary officers and members wish to express their sympathy to those who lost loved ones and paid their respects to them. Elizabeth Simko’s husband Joseph passed away February 20th. Ethel Torok, one of our honorary members, mother to Sophie Lock, who is also a member, on March 8th and to Margaret New, our treasurer, a cousin Elizabeth Horcsik on March 7th, suddenly, at a young age. Secretary Louise knew Elizabeth since childhood in West Virginia and it was shocking to see Elizabeth go. Knowing they are gone but not forgotten our shock to the members and officers was when on April 16th our charter member and treasurer for many years, Jolán Lucas was called to rest by our Heavenly Father. Her death was sudden. Twenty-six of our members paid respect to her and her family by attending. President Eleanor Kender conducting the service described Jolán as a person with love and spirit to us all who knew her. She will be greatly missed at our meetings and functions. A beautiful red rose was placed upon her as our token of love to her. “May the Lord Bless Thee and Keep Thee, and may His light shine upon you and grant you Peace and to all who have left us.” Isten Veletek. Until the next writing Secretary Louise wishes good health and happiness to everyone, and remember, keep a smile on your face and if any ladies wish to join the Ladies Auxiliary, please come to the Social Club the third Monday of each month, we would be glad to welcome you. The new Branch Coordinator servicing members in that area is Rosemary Telegdy. For all your insurance needs, contact Rose at 2500 B Raber Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685. Telephone (216) 699-2089. Branch 129 Columbus, Ohio I don’t know whether this article will reach you before the 41st Annual William Penn Bowling Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, May 25-27, but if it does, let this serve as your invitation to “discover Columbus” by attending this special event in the “heart of Ohio.” If you are an avid bowler, you’ll surely have fun. But, you’ll enjoy yourself if you hung up your bowling shoes a long time ago or even if you never put on bowling shoes in the first place. The National Bowling Tournament is the closest thing our Association has to an annual membership meeting. It is a chance to meet other William Penners from around the country, a chance to meet many of those who serve our Association at the highest levels, and a chance to see a new city with new sites. Columbus, Ohio is the only city in America with two Hyatt Hotels in the downtown area, so don’t confuse the two when you visit. Our William Penn headquarters for the tournament will be in the beautiful new 22 story Hyatt Hotel on Capitol Square South, just across the street from the state capitol building. Bowling will actually take place at the lavish new Columbus Bowling Palace, featuring fully computerized bowling. It has been 22 years since the last national tournament was held in Columbus, so our branch will be working hard to make sure that this will be a most memorable visit for you. Chances are, when you leave, you’ll agree that surprising Columbus is one of America’s “best kept secrets”—a great place for bowling, fellowship, and sightseeing—in a metropolitan area of over a million persons. We accepted the challenge of hosting the tournament at our December meeting. Our first planning meeting was held on January 16, which was actually the grand opening of this new hotel. In charge of the meeting were: National Secretary, Gus Nagy, Board of Director’s member, Albert Kertész from Dayton; and our local president, George Tokár. Co-secretaries of the tournament will be Charlie and Marge Boso. In charge 'Of the Friday night hospitality room will be John Gáal and Frank Péterfy. The Saturday night banquet will be overseen by David George and George Tokár. Heading the Hostesses Committee is Bonnie Tokár. Co-chairladies of the Woman’s Bowling Committee are Debbie Lewis and Diane Walker. In other news, on Sunday, February 26, a delicious Hungarian chicken dinner was held to honor the 16 Columbus branch members who have been with William Penn for at least 50 years. The dinner was held in the basement of Columbus’ 78 year old Hungarian Reformed Church on Woodrow Avenue, just a block from Parsons Avenue, on the south side. Our appreciation goes to the Women’s Guild of the church who served as the Magyar szakácsok. Getting the chickens ready for the 50 year members' banquet are Magyar chefs. From L. to R. —Mary Coleman, Nora Mészáros and Eleanor Bordy. Our thanks go too, to Rev. Paul Kántor for his photos of the dinner. Following remarks by Director Kertész and President Tokár, the following honorees personally received 50 year pins: Frank Horváth, Mary Varga, Rose Finta, Wilma Barton, Steve Rezes, and Louis Péterfy. Winner of the drawing for the centerpiece flowers was honoree Steve Rezes. Since Steve’s wife, Hester, was in the hospital at the time, the prize was a most welcome gift. 19 I
