The William Penn Athletic Club newly elected officers are, Larry Haidet, President; Jim Reeder, Vice President; and Zoltán Cibulas, Secretary-Treasurer. Their Christmas dinner dance was well attended by 100 members and guests. Again this year as all years, dear Santa visited our William Penn Club, where 120 children awaited him! Rosemary Popovich accepting gift from Presi dent Duruttya with Richard Fetters, Auditor, looking on. The children’s Christmas program was opened with a welcome from President Duruttya, who turned the program over to Mrs. Rosemary Popovich, but not before he presented Rosemary with a Christmas center piece. The presentation was in appreciation for her interest and generous efforts in giving the youngsters and us, “oldsters” such an entertaining program! What a beautiful dance program was presented by the Popovich dancers!! Such talented children!! After games were played and each child won a prize—for you know there are no losers at a Christmas party at Branch 189—the children in loud voices started to sing “Jingle Bells”. They sang so loudly, they almost missed Santa’s “Ho, Ho, Ho, here I am boys and girls!” The children were so suprised, a hush fell over all and then excitement ran among them, as each child sat on Santa’s lap and told him what their little hearts wanted him to bring them for Christmas! Tiffany Marie McClung, 18 days old, nesting in Santa's (Gary Heestand) arms. Our thanks to Santa, who is our own dear Gary Heestand, who is so kind, patient and loving with the children. God bless you, Gary!!! After each child had his big moment with Santa and given a sack of goodies, refreshments were served by Zack Taylor, John Barany and Karl Trumpeter assisted by Gerry Taylor. This “ole” reporter wishes to thank all of you here at Branch 189, for the very much of a surprise party given in my honor for my birthday. It was indeed such a surprise that these eyes filled with tears. Thank you to Kathy and Zoliié Cibulas, Penny and Pug Duruttya, Sherri Nile, my dear husband and all of you who honored me. Love ya all!! Our Athletic dinner dance will be held April 28. Cocktail hour will be from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M. Dinner will be served at 8 P.M. and dancing to start at 9 P.M. On May 5th, we will have our Social dinner. Dinner to be served from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Come and enjoy the food cooked by Penny and Turtle (Randy Young) then dance to the music of the Avenue Band, featuring Pug Duruttya and his talents. August 26, the Athletic picnic will be held at Beech wood Park. The picnic will start at 1 o’clock. Dick Barber is in charge of the sausage frying, and he indeed does a good job! Each family is to bring a casserole and their own table service. Everyone enjoys the food so much we all go on a diet the next day! Our sympathy to the Bara, Dugan and Martindale families at the death of their loved ones. May they rest in peace. It is with a sad heart this reporter read of Mrs. Julius Macker’s passing on to her reward. To me, she was always “Katica Néni”. 1 looked upon her as an Aunt. Aunt Katica was a childhood friend of my mother’s (Caroline Tosha). They were close friends in the “old country” and here in their “new country”. I will miss seeing her at William Penn doings. Eternal rest grant unto her dear Lord. Friday night steak fry, Saturday night dinners and Sunday morning breakfast is still being served at our William Penn Club here in Alliance. Come enjoy dining with us. Make yourself known. We will make you feel welcome! For insurance or to update your insurance, call Zoltán Cibulas at (216) 823-2028 or write him at his home, 1821 Lilly Lane, Alliance, Ohio 44601. Fraternally, Marie Duruttya Rosemary Popovich, left, back row and Popovich dancers. 25
