Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio A new year has started so we try new ideas, thus hoping to attract more member participation. One idea was to change our meeting date to Sunday afternoon. Therefore, our new meeting date will be the fourth (4th) Sunday of each month at 2:00 P.M., Our Lady of Hungary Church Hall, Belle Vista Ave. We think this new time schedule will make it easier for the branch members to attend. We do need more members to take an active part in keeping our Branch alive. Our annual Christmas party was a huge success. We had 17 children and 21 adults present. For entertainment, we had a magician and a clown who passed out inflated balloons to the children. The children also received a 1-pound box of chocolates, pop, and a new one-dollar bill. After the entertainment and a visit form Santa Claus (Branch President Mike Tomcsak), refreshments—ham sandwiches, potato salad, jello salad, pickles, cake and coffee—were served. So-o-o, a big thank-you goes out to the Branch Officers—Mike Tomcsak, John Bunchy, John Kaluczky, Helen Kaluczky, Leslie Wash, as well as Pat Nameth (wife of our Branch Manager) who were all present and helped make it a very delightful party. We were happy to have three guests with us—Steve Emery, Branch 26 Manager from Sharon, Pa., Stephen J. Benes, special representative from the Homestead Office, and his lovely fiance, Connie Whitmore. Mr. Benes seemed pleased at the way our branch party was held and we are sure that the Home Office will be given a good report about it. And no Christmas party would be complete without our branch photographer, Frank Schauer. Every year he comes and takes this group picture, which speaks for itself. Thank you, Frank! Keep up the good work. Referring now to the election of officers, we regret that the slate is not complete at this time, although Mike Tomcsak was re-elected as President and John Kaluczky as Auditor at our December 12th meeting, which had been duly noted in the Datebook section of the Youngstown Vindicator the preceding week. We will tell you more on this in the next issue, perhaps. Other business attended to at the December 12th meeting was the scheduling of the annual prayer service. This year it will be at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, Wilson Ave. Fr. Bernard Bonnot, St. Stephen’s pastor, will say the mass in the near future for all the deceased members of Branch 28, among whom is our beautiful friend, Joseph Suhy. We never heard a harsh word from Joe in all the years that we knew him—always kindness and consideration. He was one of the nicest guys that ever lived. Rest in peace, Joe; we miss you even now, as well as all the other branch members who have gone to their rest. One final note—Branch 28 wishes to extend to all William Penn members best wishes for a PEACEFUL New Year. Fraternally yours, John G. Kaluczky Reporter, Branch 28 Branch 51 Passaic, New Jersey Our annual election of officers for 1984 was held on December 11, 1983 at the American-Hungarian Citizens League, Garfield, N.J. The lovely atmosphere just added to the wonderful afternoon of activities held by our Branch. The following members were elected to office. President, Arthur Barillo; Vice President, Joseph Baumgartner; Secretary, Ernest Mozer; Treasurer, Frank Zimmermann; Auditors, Sándor Lakatos and Andrew Nemeth. Outgoing President Andrew Nemeth thanked all for their support during his presidency during the past few years. Without everyone’s help the going would have been very difficult. He invited everyone to remain after the election of officers and have a real fraternal and enjoyable time at our Family Christmas Party. Mrs. Mary Mozer, wife of Branch Manager Ernest Mozer and grandson, Michael attending his first William Penn "Family Christmas Party." Unforgetable entertainment was supplied by Larry Shagawat. He is a magician and illusionist. His acts just held everyone spellbound. Beth the children and their parents wert asked to participate in many of the acts on stage. There will be many restless nights by those present trying to figure out how these illusions were done. Larry Shagawat, magician and illusionist entertaining children with his wonderful acts.
