William Penn Life, 1984 (19. évfolyam, 1-4. szám)

1984-10-01 / 4. szám

Szervúsz to all from Ohio’s capital city. With the 41st annual national bowling tournament in Columbus, Ohio, now history, seven Columbusites headed east to McKeesport, PA July 13 for the national Williama Penn golf tournament. Finishing fourth best of the 76 golfers entered was Columbus’ Frank Péterfy who shot an 80, eight over par. Frank’s wife Violet finished with a 123 in the women’s division. Columbus’ Árpád Sibrik shot a 102. Both Frank and Árpád came home with a larger wardrobe with Frank winning a pair of trousers and a shirt. Árpád won a new shirt. Cheering on the Columbus golfers and sharing in the scrumptious Friday night banquet at the Youghiogheny Country Club were Branch 129 President George Tokár and his wife Bonnie, Mary Coleman, and A1 Bártfay. On August 19, this reporter was pleased to represent Branch 129 at the regular biennial meeting of the Knights of St. George Corporations. It was held at the spacious and impressive new William Penn home office in downtown Pittsburgh. The meeting was held the day before the regularly scheduled proceedings of the Williama Penn national board of directors. Florida visitors this past summer to the Columbus branch office at 1501 Parsons included two former Columbus couples, who are now spending most of their retirement years in the “sunshine state”. Branch coordinator Irene Voss welcomed Frank and Helen De Franco, who now live in Pinellas Park, Florida. Lou and Olga Tokár also visited from their Venice, Florida home. Lou was formerly Branch 129 Manager and also supervised the Columbus Verhovay Club House, a few years ago. We are looking ahead to the annual Branch 129 Christmas party which promises to be the biggest and best yet. There will be lots of room for all and lots of food. The party will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 16, from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Seafarer’s Union Hall, 2800 South High Street, in Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from Columbus’ south side will be there with gifts for all the children. The cuisine committee is headed by Rose Varga, who will be assisted by Piri Sibrik, Irene Voss, Marge Boso and Mary Komives, among others. Traditionally, this fun affair attracts many who we do not see during the remainder of the year. Even if you have not attended a Columbus William Penn activity or meeting in the past, this is Branch 129 Columbus, Ohio something you will want to participate in. For information, call Irene at (614) 443-7797 on a weekday, between 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. At our September 12th meeting, the door prize winners were Margaret Jánváry and Henrietta Kovács. Our next regular meetings will be held December 12 and March 13 at 8 P.M. at Leonardo’s Place, 1374 Parsons, across form TeeJays. Refreshments and snacks will be served. If you are part of the Williama Penn “family,” we invite you to be with us. The William Penn Association is a fraternal membership organization that was founded 98 years ago by 13 American Hungarian coal miners. Each year, in December, the local branches elect their own local officers to develop and implement a social calendar of activities. As an Association policy holder, you are a very important person. You are a member. What William Penn is and isn’t depends upon you. Do get involved at the local branch level. Meet old friends you haven’t seen in years. Expand your circle of friendships, with those who share your common background and heritage. Fraternally, A1 Bártfay, Auditor/Reporter Columbus, Ohio (614) 422-4985/268-2320 Branch 249 Dayton, Ohio We hope this past summer was a pleasant one for you, that your problems were minor, and your travels memorable. Now we look forward to the resumption of our branch bowling league competition which incidentally is off to a flying start. It is anticipated that Dayton will be well represented at the 42nd National Bowling Tournament in New Brunswick, N.J. next May.
