IN MEMÓRIÁM Louis L. Varga National Vice-President LOUIS VARGA Our ranks have again been thinned with the death of our highly respected and beloved National Vice-President, Louis L. Varga. He served this Association for over 40 years as an appointed, then for the past 30 years as an elected, Officer. Mr. Varga was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, 74 years ago. He attended Gerogetown University and Columbia University, from where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. His entire life was spent in doing good for others. He was President of the American Bottling Co., National Vice President William Penn Association, Vice President of William Penn Scholarship Foundation and founder of the William Penn Scholarship Fund Board of Associates. He established the Louis L. Varga Scholarship Fund within the William Penn Scholarship Foundation. He served as President of the Connecticut Bottlers Association. He was a life member of the University of Bridgeport Board of Associates and the University's Hungarian Scholarship Committee. He was a Director of the West Side Bank, Past President and Director of West End Savings & Loan Association, past member of the Bridgeport Board of Park Commissioners, past member of the Chesire Reformatory Parole Board, past Director of the Crippled Children's Society of Bridgeport. He was a member of the American-Hungarian Foundation and the American-Hungarian Federation. Louis was a caring and loving family man. He led an exemplary life and showered his family with love and kindness. He was a devout Roman Catholic, member of Park City Council Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and Catholic Council of Men. While St. Stephen's Hungarian church was in existence, he served as one of its' Trustees and was a lector at Sunday masses. When St. Stephen's parish was merged with St. Emery's parish, in Fairfield, Connecticut, he continued to serve as a lector and assisted the priests of the parish. He was always called upon to open each Board meeting with invocation for God's blessings on our deliberations. Funeral arrangements were handled by the John T. Lesko Funeral Home. On Wednesday evening, after religious services offered by Fr. Denes Szot, the eulogy on behalf of the William Penn Association was delivered by Mr. Elmer Charles, National President. All of the National Officers, Directors and Auditing Committee members attended the funeral services and served as Honorary Pallbearers. Active pallbearers were grandson Gregory Burns, nephews Mark and Thomas Lengyel, William Hoyt, and Kevin Coles. Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated by Fr. Robert Nemeth and Fr. Denes Szots, at St. Emery's Church. Burial was in Mountain Grove Cemetery's Mausoleum. Graveside farewell was given by his old friend and colleague, Albert J. Stelkovics. The late Mr. Varga contributed greatly to the former Rákóczi Aid Association, where he began his fraternal career, following in the footsteps of his Illustrious Father, Steve Varga, who served as Supreme President for 20 years. Louis always stressed the importance of fraternalism and nurturing our Hungarian heritage. He was very instrumental during 1954-55 in bringing about the Verhovay-Rakoczi merger and most recently the merger of American Hungarian Catholic Society into William Penn Association. Our departed Vice President was an advisory consultant assistant and above all, one who did things for the good of the many. To Lou Varga we owe much and his many acts of fraternal compassion will long be remembred after we | New Jersey Area News | We are happy to report from New Jersey that since the setting up of our agency in early June, we have come a long way!
