It was heart-warming to see the magnitude of members who attended our Delegate District Meeting which was held in May. Their attendance in­dicates a genuine interest in branch functions. Let’s hope this enthusiasm continues when we resume our branch meetings on the third Monday of each month, at 7:00 P.M., beginning in September at St. Stephen’s Hall, 1114 Troy Street. The Entertainment Committee and Officers of the Springdale Branch 296 are having a busy schedule this year, with each month’s meeting carrying a special theme. The February meeting featured a Valentine motif. The club room was beautifully decorated with cut-outs of hearts and flowers and a huge Valentine banner, all through the untiring efforts of the late Jay Bliz­man. He is truly missed by one and all. Everyone came to the meeting dressed in the traditional red and white colors of Valentine’s Day. Many of the ladies wore authentic hand embroidered L. to R.: Gus G. Nagy, Jay Blizman, Ron Nery, Gay B. Banes, John,P. Balia, and John Simon. Hungarian blouses. It was a fun eve­ning for all. Our March, 1983 meeting theme was Hungarian Independence Day. Follow­ing the singing of the Hungarian Na­tional Anthem, National President Elmer Charles gave a brief history of Hungarian Independence and in­formed the group that this day had been proclaimed Kossuth Day by Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thorn­burgh. The Spring Puszta Frolic and Family Picnic at Penn Scenic View on Satur­day, June 18, was well attended. It was a bring-your-own-basket picnic. Ron Meisl, well-known Western Pa. caller, was outstanding! He brought with him 10 couples, beautifully costumed, who inspired everyone to square dance. They are a fun group and will be more than welcome at future outings. Each of the dancers paired with a William Penn member for several dance numbers and an instructional session. This was indeed a successful affair, with something for everyone, kids and grown-ups alike . . . tennis, basketball, volleyball, fishing, badminton, frisbees, horse-shoes and pony rides.
